Is there anything that they can transfer from the new model to the old in terms of knowledge - to get rid of the sliding door problem.

Learning from a collegue's misfortune here. The doors usually come out of line due to the bracket at the bottom not supporting the weight of the door too well. The rest of the wear on sliding and so on is a mere result of this misalignment. The sagging bracket can be reinforced by a metal rod bent to shape and stitch welded ono the bracket. Seems to have done the trick on this particular one for the last year or so now.

Handy to know - thanks very much - we live and we learn.

Update @ 30k miles , not a lot after all this time , but i cant be bothered spending my life in the vehicle

1) i owned the vehicle from new , yet recently have been shown its had the back panel repaired before

2) Turbo is faulty and theres no power in second gear

3) ABS does not work , fiat charge £150 a time diagnostic fee to say they cant find the problem

Another train of thought that I am following is; is it possible to move the tracking bracket/holder anchored in the ceiling of the vehicle i.e if it were possible to move it minutely inwards, then I am thinking that it would pull the door in tighter.

The turbo problem will be the mass air flow meter.
It should still be under warranty so why are they charging you
