Taxi Driver Online

Hi guys, new to the forum so take it easy eh!

Ok, here's the story.

My Dad may have to give up working due to illness and i was wondering if i should start driving the cab.

The Black Cab is just sat up the drive at the moment and my Mother was thinking of selling it - she's been offered £13,000 for the Cab AND Plate think she's being taken for a ride there pardon the pun! we've been told that's quite a low offer by someone in the trade.

We live in the North West, a place in the borough of Trafford 8 miles outside Manchester so not talking London here where i think Black Cabbies do quite well.

Anyone give a rough idea how much you can earn a week? say doing a normal 40 hour week or so Mon-Fri - i do know nights and weekends are where the money is best but i was wondering if it was realistic to be making £300 ish a week outside this?

Anyone give any pointers to the above plus any other Black Cab info much appreciated like start up costs ie: obtain badge (how?) medical etc etc

I'm just testing the waters at the min to see if it would be worthwile doing.

How old is the cab, and its condition,
Your old man will be able to answer the running costs and licence fees and how much he made but out of interest let us know.
Or you could contact the council for all the details even look them up on line

Your dad is the man to ask re earnings and everything else - if it is a closely kept secret from mum, then I would suggest that you visit a number of the main offices in your area asking the same questions and from that you should get a general picture.

You will not get a fair view from here as it varies considerably from area to area.

Cab is a R reg 330,000 miles on it - not sure if that's alot sounds it! in decent condition, good runner according to my Dad.

Cabbyjohn, i'd ask my old man but the illness has affected
his speech unfortunatly so if anyone can shed any light on this that would be great.

Licence fees and conditions will be available from your local authority.

I'm totally the other end of the country but, I would imagine £300 pw would not be totally unreasonable although you must ask others in your locality.

Go to the council web site and under licencing you will find out all you need to know.
You can transfer ownership of the vehicle.
speak to any of your dads mates they will inform you of what to do and how to go about it.
The older ones will give you more info.
If your dad worked for a company or radio circuit they will also help

Go down your council and get your licensing application in.

Best job in the world.

But a 330,000 black cab is the worst motor in the world.

Are you the taxman out on a fishing trip or what, your old man must have a set of accounts you could look at and that will give you some idea
