hiya is it legal to enforce a colour code on taxi's

well without a court court case, York have to have a colour code by next year , in our case its black, yep, black, hard to see in the dark, hard to keep clean, they look grotty, looks like a funeral procession, and in some cases Black with some manufactors have up to 30 different variations of black

LA . Could you recognize the driver

Passenger, er no, but the cab was black in colour

LA, well that narrowers it down to the whole fleet

im just trying to get the different case laws up i know durham won as well as stockport and hastings but im buggered if i can find the threads again

here..

hackneys must be white, unless purpose built, then any colour

age - purpose built can be plated upto 10 years old, others 5 yrs max

private hire - nothing white or which appears to be white (????)


"speciality" plated (wedding cars, pony and trap) - any...

portsmouth hacks must all be silver with the council shield on the bonnet (apparently it helps the public tell its a taxi!!) and plate number on the rear doors and th p/h can be any colour except silver with the plate number on the rear doors

saloons are ok and are still just i think outnumbering the txs/euros etc

if i cant refuse to pickup a blind person with a guide dog, how will they know what colour the car is?

ah, now i forsee another requirement for hackney plate vehicles..... braille patches on signs in 16 different languages so as not to be racist


can i get a job as an LO?

cant woork nights or weekends though

well if you lot are saying yes it is legal how comes three councils have lost court cases to the tune of approx 30 grand each all im trying to find out is where the case law is lurking on here

I dont think there is case law other than what you possibly already have from cases on here at magistrates.

The question seems to be is it a 'reasonable' condition......this depends upon current circumstances.

had my standard tourneo through its PH "compliance" test saturday, which it passed.

just had the "LO" (aka pollution officer) ring, he needs to inspect the vehicle

wait for it



"to see if the seats are where they should be"


so how did it "comply" at a test station?...

Because I suspect they didn't consult properly.

If they do that then they can have yellow with pink spots.
