Show them the letter.

I would imagine the council have access to the plans of the area, and will be in a position to tell which part of the land is in public ownership and which is not.

Station ranks being tied up to particular companies don't sit well with me, it always smells of backhanders and shady meetings.

Why don't a few 'non station' taxi's just start working off the rank on mass. Any problems, call the BTP.

A letter was issued by the council last week stating that the station rank is on public highway, and as such any licensed hackney may use it............and Arriva have written to the Hackney Association saying that it remains private land and is part of the station.

Send an e-mail complaint to these folks.

I have been on the rank at the station today and was told to leave by an Arriva employee, I asked him for his name and under what authority he was asking me to leave and he refused to give me his name - so I refused to leave.
The council are standing by the fact that there is a Traffic Regulation Order in place and that the highway was adopted/paid for and is maintained with public money therefore is a public rank.

The taxi association will not accept this as they are still paying Arriva and claim the Council do not have the authority to declare it a public rank.

You really couldn`t make this up !!!

I really do think a meeting, between all interested parties i.e. station folk, council folk, pass holder, the likes of you, punters, should be set up to sort this out one way or another

The best way to settle this is to let British Rail police prosecute you,

I think it was more a case of someone (not in the council btw) misunderstanding the legal process, from what I can gather notice has been served of an application for Judicial review but that is all as yet.

I am told both parties will be in front of a judge on Monday who will decide if their is a case to answer.
I am also told that a driver picked his new vehicle up from Scotland yesterday, took it for its test and then went to council for the plate only to be refused...........I have been unable to confirm this at the moment.

It may be that the driver arrived too late for the test and plate....still waiting for confirmation.

The case is as you say before a judge today

(I have edited the link as it is no longer valid)

I am sure it won`t be long before the result filters down.

He got held up on his way back from Glasgow and didn`t get to the office before it closed.
He has now got his plate and it is business as usual at the council office this afternoon !!!!!!!
