Taxi Driver Online

Going into Birmingham Airport a few days ago, I noticed an out of town PHV going through an adjacent barrier into the 'Rapid Drop-off' car park, which had a stick on plate on the rear bumper.

I didn't think much of it at the time, but have since realised what a good idea that is.

In Birmingham we have screw on hard plastic plates, but it is well known that 100's of PHVs are used at the weekend, but during the week when the driver is working at his 'proper job', the plate comes off, is thrown in the boot, until the next weekend, & off he goes to his 'proper job', or worse still the missus uses the car as a weekday run around.

As we all know, a licensed vehicle is a licensed vehicle always, & as such nobody other than a licensed driver should be driving a PHV.

The beauty of the stick-on PHV plate is that once you pull it off, you need a new one, & it would prevent the above scenarios.

Does anyone know which LAs use these PHV plates, & who the manufacturers are?

ive a pair of stick on side door yellow stickers and a mojo wossname that screws to the number plate

i know 1 LA where PHV have a plate on the rear shelf...

a lot of drivers in York use Velcro to hold the plates on

I know about the Mojo ones.

These were totally different.

Printed, soft, stick on plastic.

It curved with the shape of the bumper, about 9 inches acrross by 7 inches high.

now this one rule which seems totally archaic and useless, can anyone explain it to me?

i agree when i drive it, even if not for hire (private) it could possible be required to have its plate and me my badge, but when in family use, why? and why cant the wife drive it if it has no signs or plates on it?

(other than she cant drive anyway..... )

It's really very simple...... there have been too many unlicenced drivers caught working private hire vehicles..... and then claiming they are only taking a friend home.....

The law is the law. It may seem stupid and archaic to some people but unless you can convince the powers that be that they are wrong then you are stuck with it.

I think Leeds p/h have a soft plastic stick on plate

It does not surprise me that Leeds use them.

They have always been a progressive council.

In London a few taxi drivers I know have their vehicles insured for their wives to drive.
Since they made us pay full RFL our vehicles are now insured for business and private use. Also some drivers have their vehicles insured for any driver.
We must not however remove our plates at any time. If done they must be returned to the PCO and the cab re-presented.
Plus if we pop across to France on the Euro-Star we have first to acquire permission from the PCO to take their plates abroad

In that case can a friend drive a Taxi if his insurence covers him to drive any vehicle?
