That's a lot.

Taxitech in East London replaces the tensioner and a new chain for £360 all in.

All we do here is rip out the stupid ford engine and gearbox, and replace it with the Nissan....

Hello , I have a 04 tx2 and I think the timing chain is on its way out , do you know if the chain taxitech fits is an upgraded version to what I already have or is it an identical replacement , thanks

No it's an identical chain, you'll probably find your current chain is ok, but get the new one just to be sure.

The problem is'nt really with the chain (although a few have gone) it's mainly the mechanism that tightens the chain. When you start the engine, it should only sound really 'rattly' for a few seconds before the tensioner takes effect, it seems to need replacing at anything between 50K and 100K.

As I mentioned on another thread, I'm aiming to do mine every 2 years regardless, it's peace of mind, a loose chain can do a lot of damage.

Many thanks for the info , I have booked it in and your right about the price , i'll let you know how it goes as this quote of 350 was less than a third of the dearest quote I have had , cheers

Another problem of the TX11 is the fan belt.
I'm told it's a 2 hour job and the AA and RAC won't do a roadside replacement, they tow you to a garage.

How long does it take to replace the belt on the TX4?

Fan belt (aux drive belt) should take no more than 1 hour to replace.

Been talking to a pal of mine who's had 3 (three) timing chains on his 06.

It appears the problem is wear in the timing chain.
Because of the nature of taxi work, especially in London, the constant accelerating and stopping wears the chain and throws out the timing.
This is not a problem where the Ford engine is used in the Mondeo etc.

LTI are blaming Ford for the problem and Ford are arguing the engine was not designed for taxi work ie,owners loose out.

My knowledge of mechanics is similar to that of the board of LTI (I had a Meccano set one Christmas) but can a Metro Toyota engine (of which I have yet to hear bad word) replace the Ford engine?

I wonder why the Ford engine worked ok in the Metro even though it was noisy, and your right about the Toyota one very little pr-obs there I have heard of some over heating issues though mainly due to the thermostats
