one of the new free issued York WC cabs which was sat idle for a few weeks with the owners unable to find a driver who was prepard to pay £300 per week plus put your own fuel in, and no station permit

the owner of the cab, a lady, is to busy with another business along with her husband and cant let her husband be over worked

now a driver aged over 65 has come out of retirement [proberly to make ends meet] to work the cab, he can have it day and night

Stink have you got a cab spare for the old guy let him have it for £50 per week
Even better let the council know its not being used and get them to transfer it to him

I suppose it all depends on how much the driver can earn in a week.

If he can get near a grand then £300 + fuel ain't so bad.

If he can only get near half that, then best it stays parked up earning nothing for the owner.

Has the owner not considered a split bag deal? :?

I have just got back in from a fairly lucrative night for here anyway, but I was thinking about this, the owner wanted a driver, the driver is now an employee so is entitled to a wage, she did not want here man overdoing it so i take it the cab is only available when her man is not in it thereby the driver is technically told when to start and finish

she could always pay for a driver to badge up and pay him 1/3rd of the takings

hope it sits and rots

Your suggesting she employs the driver? paid by the hour with holiday pay and days in lieu?

Absolutely, she advertised for a driver she got one and mugged him into giving her £1200 a month just to drive her cab.

The woman wants to rent the cab out for a fee.

The driver will either pay it or he wont, in which case the cab will be parked up and the woman will either have to get rid, or lower the rental fee.

What's sad about the story is probably the fact we dont know the full facts.

Whats the criteria to obtaining a 'plate' in York?

I got to thank you for that....by superb loves that rank + I dont have to load wheelchairs anymore :D

But back to the b*llocks you wrote.

A person renting a cab isnt an employee.

Yes Captain!!

I'd be shi*ing myself too, if I had to pay that rent!

On that rent I'd expect to take £1.500 on an average week; otherwise why bother?

Exactly, and we only have a part of the story.
