And your chairman is selling jobs to the mini cabs for 50p a go.
How do the drivers allow this surely you had a vote?

Yeah, me too. I notice now even in the wee am hours i come into town most of the zones are booked into and only a few really move :?

Struggling to think though which account states no mpv's? I do know how much of our "good" work goes into cars

The Merc Vitto is a proven vehicle in the Private hire business. My neighbour leases one now and again when he requires a bigger vehicle than his Merc saloon. He says it is one of the best vehicles he has driven and has been limousine driver for many years.

Trouble is, the manufactures and the regulating body, the Public Carriage Office/TFL think we are all millionaires
They have taken a twenty grand vehicle, put a special taxi pack on it and virtually double the price.
If this Merc Vitto had been marketed in London for around twenty four grand it would be selling like hot cakes, TFL and LTI know this.
I'm not trying to start a conspiracy but we need to be told why the turning circle is so important, U turns are being banned in London every week on major roads and the Public are always complaining about the way Black taxis turn in front of them (except when they are passengers in a hurry).
This vehicle could have been sold in London a lot cheaper than it is currently priced at and very soon the London Taxi Trade is going to wake up.

Although I have said before that I think Bob Oddie is the wrong man to represent the trade, I must admit he was the best of the three candidates that were put up for the job. The other two were chairman of the two biggest radio taxi firms in London and, in my opinion, leading the radio trade down the wrong road.
Bob must be made to wake up if he is to lead the trade.
We have to unite no matter which association or union you belong to, that is the most important issue.
We must be in charge of our own destiny.
We must be separated from the Private hire Trade.
The PCO must brake away from TFL and deal solely with the Hackney Cab Trade and a new body formed to regulate the PH trade.
We have to be governed by People who understand our trade, not ex bus drivers and graduates from the north of England. The Carriage Office could well be staffed from within our own ranks. There are many drivers who could be retrained who through no fault of their own have lost their license through Diabetes or heart problems. I am not saying Staff the PCO with sick cabbies but we can supply many good candidates who understand the trade.
If we do not take charge of our own destiny soon we will disappear up our own exhaust pipes.
The problem with the TX4 is a wake up call, we must not turn the snooze button on

Spot on Thomas regarding our trade & the PCO, the only probs i see without the "turning-circle" is negotiating tight ranks like Euston & City airport :-|

Nice to see some of the London trade don't mind taxis resembling PH

Incidentally, will Mercedes give a warranty on the rear wheel steering? Nobody seems to have answered that one yet.

The big one with the marshal on London Wall. It was a car job which they couldn't cover, the message read if no car available send taxi not MPV.

If you don't want one you don't have to have one........i personally am happy to see my trade move forwards into the 21st century and leave the past behind. As much as i love the styling of the fairway i wouldn't want to spend my whole shift in one now; i had enough of that when i got my badge. So it looks like a van/PH........it still has a damn bright TAXI sign on the front and a damn bright driver sitting in the driving seat, 2 things missing in a PH!

I'd imagine the warranty covers all mechanical including the rear steering axle, why should it not be the case ?

I suspect that has something to do with price rather than the motor itself. Down here any vehicle booked or flagged needing over 4 seats is priced at a meter and a half. :D

I wont have one....dont like vans much

Now if it were an 'S' Class that would be another matter.

Plus...you better check that warranty very closely.

Better still phone up KPM's and ask if the rear steering is covered by the warranty.
Or do you know something no one else knows?

The cab trade must embrace new technology and move forward with modern times or disappear.

Whether this is the right vehicle to replace the now flawed TX series, only time will tell.
But the TX will be replaced and other producers will line up to enter the London Taxi market.
With a bit of luck we should start seeing vehicles that are more reasonably priced entering the market soon.

We all want to retain our icon, but at what cost?
We have to admit when its time to let it go and move on.

So the Vitto looks like a van, they said that about the Metro cab.
If we buy the Vitto in great numbers, the public will soon get used to it.
Mini cabs used to use beat up old cars, no one said a word when they changed to MPV's. Their business increased because of the fact their vehicles were better suited to the job.

Sussex said they charge clock and a half for more than four passengers down there, sounds like an excellent idea to me.
Some drivers are doing that at the moment, quite illegally, but you should not expect 6 passengers to get to a destination for the same price as a single pin.

Dear Mr

1. Thank you very much for your interest in the new Metrocab Hybrid.

2. It is expected to be launched later in the year.

3. We would be pleased to keep you informed and possibly include you in one of our feedback groups to drive our one of our test vehicles if you are interested.

4. We appreciate you taking the time and trouble to get in touch with us and to point us to the national taxi driver website.

Thank you once again and warmest regards

William Chia
