The only thing i've heard about the metrocab hybrid taxi is that it has 4 batteries, one sited near to each wheel, the batteries will only come with a 1 year warranty and to replace the batteries will cost in the region of £3000 each!!!

Now, we know the trade is one big rumour mill and i can only give so much credence to what i hear but if this is to be believed then i'm certainly in no hurry to sign up..............perhaps someone can give us more details ??

LTi have e-mailed us today advising that an expanded recall has been made for TX4s in the VIN range of 200000 - 211500, so that replacement parts can be fitted.

Looks like the numbers are going, 11500  up a reply from Aberdeen council

DO NOT BUY A TX 2 OR 4

WFT has a TX2 got to do with the danger warning skip? (apart from denting peoples pockets?)

As an extra precaution automatic fire extinguishers will be fitted under the bonnets of 5,000 TX4 vehicles.

High pressure canisters will automatically flood the engine compartment with carbon dioxide if sensors detect a fire.

I've been thinking about this so called FIRE SUPPRESSION SYSTEM that's going to be fitted under the TX4 bonnets ....... & my head hurts now!!

FACT; Carbon Dioxide (CO2) is heavier than air.

So, when, & I do mean WHEN, one of these re-worked TX4s catches fire in the future & the FIRE SUPPRESSION SYSTEM is activated under the bonnet, the CO2 will have to be discharged in an upwards direction, but as soon as it is, it will start falling to the floor/road & then spreading out along the road.

Once all the CO2 has been discharged & dropped to the road, if there is still any extreme heat in the area of the fire, doesn't common sense say that the fire might well re-ignite?

Is this the reason that they are apparently fitting two cannisters under the bonnet?

The Co2 will suppress the flames thus allowing more time for the occupants to get out the car. A fire requires oxygen to burn. The Co2 will temporarily replace all the oxygen so the fire will be unable to burn.

As grandad says, no guarantee it will stop the fire. It will (hopefully) buy you enough time to get your punters and yourself out.

FFS this a bit like fitting airbags to a motor with dodgy brakes and hoping everything will be ok.
