I don't chase round hospital's, bars supermarkets etc looking for punters I wait outside in a car with Taxi written in big letters on it, if they can't find me it's their loss, I give them 5 mins with the meter running then I'm off and yes I do get paid. ( I don't take cash advance bookings for that reason.)

I don't take the job if/when they call back either, once bitten and all that.

sounds to me like a recipe for getting yourself a bad name and losing customers

Customers like that I don't need.

might be a good annual sum to lose though, we live in harsh times, a grand a week isnt easy to come by

Is it right we are cheaper than having porters to do the job

Only if you have under priced the contract. If you charge £10-15 an hour, then you ain't going to be cheaper than porters on min wage.

Not my contract personally. It's for the company I PH with. It would be better for me to sit in my car and wait for them I get paid waiting time. I think after a few of us have done that for half an hour then bogged off without the fare they might get the message. I personally couldn't care about the contract don't get that much work from it myself and it's at discount rate. I think personally the hospital have got a damn cheek. Anyway this is one driver who ain't leaving the car. Apart from all that it's just not safe.

If I was to leave my car and go into the hospital to find the punter I would either have to Pay £2.50 car park fee or have a £60 ticket. So its sit in the car and wait.

We have a contract with the local health authority. Previously we waited outside the hospital for the patients to arrive and we would then take them where they had to go (usually home). We've now been told that we have to go into the hospital and collect the patient from the ward. My concern is if I was to do this and had an accident with the patient between the ward and my vehicle would I be insured. The other question is what am I supposed to do if I have more than one patient that has to be wheeled out in a wheel chair. Is it right we are cheaper than having porters to do the job

In my Opinion the transferral of patients from various areas/wards within the Hospital to the Doors should be up to the Hospital porters (or whatever grandiose title they have nowadays)...they dont drive your Taxi so why should you do their Job??..nor would your Insurance Cover them nor their Insurance cover You...so no..its not part of your Job.

Let the porters do it for you mate, we've got a contract like yours and the hospital tell us under no circumstances are we to aid them, it's down to the porters to get them to the car.
