Cabbie's Kind Deed Praised; Passenger Reunited With Wallet

29th September 2008

A taxi driver has been praised by one of his customers after making sure his wallet was returned to him safe and sound. Louis Watson, who had flown from Scotland, was picked up from Luton Airport by Khalid Mehmood, 40, a taxi driver for Alpha, and taken to a hotel in Bedford.

It was only later on that Mr Watson, from Ayrshire, realised his wallet, containing all his money and credit cards, was missing. Fortunately he had kept the details of the taxi firm, and contacted Mr Mehmood, who found the wallet in the back of his cab.

The visitor was reunited with his wallet the next day after Mr Mehmood happily agreed to take it back to him in Bedford. Mr Watson decided to write to Luton Borough Council, which licenses the town's taxi drivers, to tell them about the excellent service he had received.

He said: 'It is refreshing, especially in this day and age, for a person to act with such honesty, coupled with his willingness to ensure my wallet was returned untouched.'
