Soldier Fined For Racist Tirade Against Cabbie
2nd October 2008
A serving soldier admitted launching a racist tirade against a taxi driver.
Martin Lile, 27, of Alexandria Avenue, Boghall, hurled racist abuse at the driver during a row over eating in his cab.
Yesterday he admitted acting in a racially aggravated manner which caused, or was intended to cause, alarm and distress to Phethezakhe Mlilo at Falkirk Sheriff Court.
The charge said he shouted racist remarks, swore and threatened the cabbie with violence.
His co–accused, Leanne McQueen, 24, from Darwen, Lancs, was allowed to leave the dock when her not-guilty plea was accepted by the prosecution.
The taxi driver asked the pair to clear up the mess their food had made in his cab on a journey to Falkirk on June 7 this year.
Mr Stephen Biggam, defending, said Lile, had "little or no recollection of the incident", but did clean up the cab. Sheriff William Gallacher fined the soldier £375
