We use mercury, to use auto dispatch the system has to be set up perfect.
The thing that worries me about auto dispatch is that if you have a load of drivers at the base and one on the road, the driver on the road could in theory be going from job to job because he is the nearest.
Also with auto dispatch it may send a driver to a job that you might not want to do that job(new driver, customer does'nt want driver, etc.)
I have seen auto dispatch working at a large(80 cars) cab office and the controller said they did'nt have any problems with it.

We went live with Mercury on Tuesday night, it was the first weekend this weekend we've used it, it was spot on only a few mishaps along the way nothing which can't be sorted on Monday morning, me I had a good night with mileage down and takings up, it was dropping me onto each job give or take a couple of miles. We had one little problem at 3am this morning when O2 in their wisdom decided to update their network     everything went down so we had to go back onto voice.

Forget the above it's a bag of crap.

We give out our jobs manually, but we only have about 25 cars working on a friday night.

we've started to disptach on auto at busy times but for slow times it has to be longest waiting driver as our main working area is around 5 miles radius and from one end of town to the other we can get there within 10 mins.

the only thing i dont like about our system is that you cant change between auto and manual on the fly, you have to put each job on hold.

I dont know what compny you are with for your data dispatch but you should not have to go onto manual dispatch to give jobs out to longest waiting drivers it should be configurable whilst on auto despatch we have 5 different methods of despatching work whilst on auto despatch 1 of them which is longest waiting driver

We did have different dispatch methods on our old system and trusted controllers had the privilage to change the method as they saw fit, we had longest waiting driver, closest driver, driver in queue or closest, or simply first driver in a certain queue.

We also had the ability to let drivers roam without losing their overall queue position, ie if they moved from one plot to another they would go to the top as they was longest waiting.

With our current system this is not possible all we can do is either first come first serve or closest. busy times this works wonders but when your killing flies thats when other methods come in handy.

So a driver has a good long job, when he gets back from his travels, as he hasn't had a new job for a while, does that mean he goes straight to the top of the queue? :?

When I hear other people talk about the complicated proceedures they have in place to 'be fair' I am always puzzled.

First I want my best drivers to be looked after more than the poor drivers. I certainly wouldn't risk a majoraccount by sending a risky/inexperienced driver for a major player on that account.

And secondly at the end of the day it is best for all that we make best use of resources and trying to balance distribution on a 'per shift' basis costs everybody in the end.

A rational post, in the best possible sentiments.....you have risky drivers?
