Hey all, it hasn't taken too long but Im a very unhappy PH driver (in Edinburgh). At the end of most shifts I feel despondant and cheated as it appears that all other drivers are getting more work, I feel like this because I rarely get a job when there are a lot of cars on the queue and quite often I would be first on the queue yet the cars in position 2, 3 etc start to disappear. Its very frustrating because I do actually like the work so I've decided to get my black cab licence.
Can anyone advise the best method to learn? I know that there are some taxi schools here but Im not sure how much they charge or which school is the best.
Thanks for all replies.

Bob McCullouch's mate Jim Kirland runs one I think, I think they have good reports, perhaps one of the edinburgh guys will be able to confirm?

If you have been working PH then I can't believe it will be that onerous a task to do the taxi knowledge.

Thank you for your replies, I've been working PH for a year now and my knowledge of the town is not bad with regards to areas but street names and the location of bars hotels etc could do with a lot of improvement.
Can you recommend any techniques for remembering the street names.
thanks again

Getting your family to keep asking you the streets whilst you go through the school.

so is doing the taxi course through a school the best method to learn the trade or is it possible to do it without having to pay? i.e. home study?

I agree with Sussex, presumably the people running the courses will have an idea about what the LA are looking for.

Didn't you have to do a knowledge test for your PH badge? so why would you have to do another for your HC.......... this seems a little strange to me :?

i got lost quite a bit in the beginning which was embarrassing but when you're thrown in at the deep end you learn to swim very quickly. i actually do believe that there should be a knowledge test for ph in edinburgh if for nothing else but the areas and main roads. also going by some of my fellow ph collegues, an actual driving test wouldn't be a bad idea..
