Taxi drivers told 'visit optician'

Hemel Today!

Two taxi drivers were advised to visit an optician during safety spot checks.

Drivers were stopped randomly in Hemel Hempstead town centre during a sweep involving Herts Police, Dacorum Borough Council and VOSA.

Of the 30 vehicles checked, two drivers were advised to visit an optician following eye sight tests, one was issuADVERTISEMENTed with a notice to fix a vehicle fault and report back to the council and four drivers were given verbal warnings for minor infringements, including not carrying insurance documents or a copy of their council-issued driver licences.

The cars were stopped between 7am and 2pm last Wednesday (October 22) when police escorted drivers to the Civic Centre in Marlowes for inspections.

Borough council licensing manager Deborah Latto said: "This type of operation is carried out at least twice a year with the intention of reducing the number of vehicles in action with faults.

"Therefore improving the road safety of vehicles licensed as hackney carriages and private hire vehicles by the borough.

"This recent operation has proved these actions are a useful and successful tool in achieving this, it also serves as a reminder to the owners of all licensed vehicles of the need to carry out regular safety checks on their vehicles."

TBH I'm surprised it was only two. :?

A driver can drive a cab for up to 30 years without a new medical, and how many of us on here have the same level eye sight as they had 30 years ago? :?
