couldn't agree more...........we finally got ABS but they still kept drum brakes on the rear  The drivers seat is still a joke and the trim, roof lining etc is far superior in my TX1 than in my TX4!

I prefer the ride in the TX4 and though it's handy having the extra power when i need it, the irritating flat spot when i first accelerate gets on my nerves..........i was telling my brother in law this evening that i prefer drving my TX1 to my TX4 (the TX4 is rented out), i save a small fortune on fuel and the recaro seat i put in the cab nearly 8 years ago is still in great nick and very comfortable.

Once the TX4 is paid for or my fella stops renting from me (whichever is sooner) i may well sell both cabs and buy myself the mercedes taxi, by that time it will have become established and recognised in London as a taxi, the problems would of been ironed out and hopefully the wheelchair ramp would have been incorporated into the floor.

:)

At last...a post from someone who would be affected!

thank you

Seeing as you have raised the issue of impact relating to UK demise it gives you an excellent oportunity to impart your opinions on who the demise will impact upon in the "taxi trade" and why?

In order to widen the debate it would be helpful if you could expand on who you beleive would be affected, "specifically" in the Taxi trade, excluding employees of LTI and why?

The people who own the taxis or are in the process of purchasing the taxis......I wasnt actually thinking of employees of LTI.

Well you established who you believe it will affect but you didn't articulate how or why?

I can think of one or two reasons but they might be different than yours.

Yan.....the second hand value of a vehicle which is out of production will fall on its backside.

Tan....(or second reason if we're being melodramatic) is that one of the deals currently open to purchasers of the LTI vehicle guarantees a set amount of value.....cant see that being the case if they no longer produce.

Tethera...availability of parts and warrenty on vehicles recently purchased or for existing vehicles.....although the aftermarket will still be there for a few years.

regards

CC

I assume you mean the "trade in value", when purchasing a new vehicle from LTI. The second hand value otherwise won't be affected, as a matter of fact it might even increase because of the scarcity factor.

There are of course strings attached to that deal such as condition of vehicle but a company shouldn't be given a free ride just because trade in value on a new vehicle might be affected. I'm sure every other car manufacturer would like a free ride but they don't get it.

These are the two reasons that crossed my mind but the main one relating to parts is easily put rest by virtue of the fact that "Unipart" distribute the parts and Geely Managanese Bronze will be shipping cheaper car parts from China within the next few months. Closing the Coventry plant would play into the hands of Geely/manganese bronze because they could ship cheaper vehicles over to the UK, assuming they complied with EU regulations and were not too expensive when taking into account import tariffs.

I disagree with the trade in value....I think it will be seriously affected.

I'm not sure what you mean by a free-ride....there wont be a company there to give any ride at all.

The supply of parts wont be an issue so much....most of the parts are off other vehicles anyway.

Once again we have to be pragmatic about the situation, it doesn't matter what we or anyone feel about LTI, the reality is that they are in a precarious position with regard to their future UK prospects.

If they have a future in the UK then I would like to see the blueprint.
