Interesting to know how these Vitos will cope with the rank at Euston and setting down at The Savoy (when it reopens).
It's okay for the occasional Vito having problems turning, but when they become substantial in number,it will cause congestion.

If you use the left hand lane there should'nt be a problem.

Even if there was and it prevented you using half a dozen ranks, is it really going to stop drivers working?

I believe the E7 starts at around £20K for the basic manual model.
I think even the basic model would have a spec that beats the Silver TX features.

I know its hard for you lot up north to understand but London's black cab has always been an Icon, even the Metro.
It has been recognisable all over the world.
Its such a shame that the manufactures could not keep the standard up and even though the TX4 is selling world wide, soon the SH*t will hit the fan and the TX4 will suddenly drop from the market.

If we are to let another manufacturer take over the reins we must be careful not to drop the standards of fitness to far or the iconic cab will disappear altogether.
The 3 biggest icons in London in the last 100 years have been the red telephone box, the red route master bus and the black cab.

The box and bus have disappeared and are the subject of small pressure groups trying to bring them back, but once the black cab goes its gone forever.
If the TX4 is to be replace we have to make sure it is with a vehicle that is easily recognisable to the visitors to London.

The PCO are talking about phasing out the Vitto as a private hire vehicle with no new licenses being granted.
It was always the case since the licensing of PHV in London that they would not be able to use the same vehicles as Hackney carriage. The Vitto being already in use threw a spanner in their works.

After driving a Vitto and talking to a couple of owners I personally think it could replace the TX4 but it needs to come down in price. With the increase of U-turn ban's on roads in central London the rear wheel steering is an unnecessary expense.

The Metrocab an icon?

Ok Mr A.

Will we be saying that about the Mercedes in 20 years?

Cabs come and go, the public don't give a hoot about the vehicle and who makes it, as long as it's a Taxi and they get home.

The drunks don't even care if it's a Taxi, never mind if it's an icon.

Well that's your opinion, It might be the case in lichfield, but in London the passengers do want a proper Taxi

Not every passenger is a drunk and most do care what we drive. Some Londoners still have pride in our trade and support us, more so than some drivers.
Yes the metro is an icon, show one to any tourist and they will instantly recognise it as a taxi.
I hope you are right about the Vitto, but i think it will be accepted as a cab a lot quicker than 20 years.
I know I have done a complete U-turn on this but before, like many others I was put off the Vitto by the uninformed on forums telling us all what a piece of crap it was.

Define a 'proper' Taxi?

If Londoners, bless them, cared so much about their Taxi's, why do hoards of them get into unlicensed, or even licensed Minicab's every night?

Clapped out Vauxhall Astra's in their hundreds.

Perhaps the next taxi should be a Vauxhall Astra? :?

£13K for a Metrocab with nearly half a million miles?

The TX1 would be worth it though, £15K with 150'000 miles is ok for a late model TX1.

I'd have paid that had it been around back in Feb.

You are buying into this "icon" image.
Tell me what is so iconic about a minibus with an orange sign on top?

We have just heard a rumour but can't confirm.
Vitto to be available in London for the Hackney trade without rear steering saving £4,000. Has anyone else heard this.
Apparently the PCO are to drop the turning circle.
This could open the flood gate to other suppliers?
I know what you're all thinking, Who cares?
But it will affect the London cab trade if we all start driving round in the same vehicles as mini cabs.

Would appreciate if anyone has a link to any statement.

I wouldn't be surprised if this was being contemplated but it is not a decision that can be made without consultation within the TFL. I suspect if anyone new of such dealings it would be the LTDA.

Perhaps the best way to aproach this would be to ask the LTDA if they know of any "recent" discussions having taken place within the TFL in respect of removing the turning circle condition? Rather than ask them outright if the condition is being removed.

Regards

JD
