how do you work that out?

monday 1 job 350 miles round trip
last night 1 job 100 mile round trip
2 weeks ago 1 job 180 mile round trip

so in just 3 jobs i did 630 miles....

(did others too)
Ask any London driver how much an overhaul costs and what it entails.

Non London vehicles do more miles.

Saying that....if your doing lots of long distance work...the wear on the vehicle is less arduous than 150 miles and 40 jobs.

to counter that id say you make more per mile, stop/start is more ardous but the vehicle needs servicing anyway, so whats the diff between an overhaul and a service (or 6 week inspection for a lwb 16 seater)?

Thats why I stated; "Ask any London driver how much an overhaul costs and what it entails. "

For the first three years it is wise to use an LTI garage because of the warrantee, but it makes it more expensive.

First year overhaul on my two and a half year old TX2 was £880, 4 nights off the road. Fail on the thursday Headlight bulb went at the SGS centre, had to go back on gthe Friday.

Midterm was £420. lost 3 nights work. failed the smoke test ( cold engine). Went back the next day had no more work done and past!
second year overhaul, didn't have the a/c serviced £720, 3 nights off the road

I don't do much mileage, in Two and a Half years I have completed 42,000.

That aside there are there still grades of garages?

Do you still have to steamclean and paint?

Do stop notices still exist for such thinks as unathorised stickers etc?

I thought overhauls cost more TBH.

under EU laws you do NOT have to use "dealer" garages to maintain your warranty on any vehicle so long as it is serviced at a proper garage/workshop (with a vat invoice issued and in line with manufacterers guidelines)

Maybe london cabs don't do the mileage, but I think the mileage may be harder than out of town cabs, loads of stop/start work and speed bumps everywhere!
I must admit I have spoken to a few london cab drivers about thier overhaul, and am amazed that they don't even get an itemised bill!!

It favours the driver on overhaul to be with an authorised dealer under 3 years old as some of the work they do on the cab is done under the warrantee. Other garages wont do this work free.
You no longer have to have a steam clean and Paint thank God, it use to do more damage than good.
Yes the cab can be stopped for having unauthorised stickers, a friend of mine got a stop for having an Avon Cosmetics Taxi disc holder.

Overhauls can cost a lot more but It depends on a number of factors like the age and if the driver regularly services the vehicle. I suppose I'm not a good example as I do about a third less mileage than the average driver in London, and I tend to pop in to the Garage in between services for minor running repair work.

I've worked out I cross approximately 1000 speed humps per week (200 per day).Some days I work 8 hours,but I might do 90 miles.
No,I don't have a long lunch,it's London's traffic and it takes its' toll on vehicles (and in some cases, drivers).
Some taxis may do 500 miles a week, but the engine has been working 45 hours. As for the toll on brakes, some get 6000 miles between services.
If you live in central London, you may not do more than 40 mph once in a week.
Unless you experience London's traffic,it's hard to imagine.

That's why it's unfair to compare the work taxis do in London with the rest of the country.

I dont really agree....but what I was driving at (pardon the pun) was that a certain poster doesnt seem to realise how difficult a PCO test is.

My old FX4 failed one year because the brake servo pulley was the wrong way round.
Changed the pulley over and the FX4 passed.
Next year my old FX4 failed because the brake servo was the wrong way round...

As garages used to say (about the examiners),'depends who you get'.

Don't appear to have this problem with SGS,yet...
