As someone who have never been in the armed forces I find it quite refreshing how many taxi/PH drivers have done their bit.

And no I'm not taking the p***.

I've tried to get a better shot of the cap badge but this is the best I could manage. It's not clear enough to be sure but this one is a good match for the shape.

i always thought a fusilier was the same as a grenadier, seems not, it comes from the name of a type of rifle. you live and learn.

Fusilier was originally the name of a soldier armed with a light flintlock musket called the fusil. The word was first used around 1680, and has later developed into a regimental designation.

the badge must depict a burning fuse, or fusilier?

Every soldier who served in WWI was entitled to at least one campaign medal, these can be searched for here

These are all the Scottish badges from when the battalions where first formed, this would give each one its own identity and what part of Scotland there home base came from, before the amalgamations started just a few years ago, even though this happened the new badge has aspects from them all

Thank you all for this info.
I am going to see if I can get a copy of my grandads birth certificate as I now believe the name we all new him by George might have been his middle name, a common occurrence at the time.
We have always had trouble with him, on censuses and certificates because of this.
But I feel pretty confident we now know his regiment the RSF by the cap badge..
Thanks again and I will let you know if we find anything else out.
