Taxi Driver Online

I see in the media that Manchester is considering having a Congestion Charge.

What advice do London taxi drivers have to offer the people of Manchester to help them decide?

2 weeks ago a very thoughtful @swipe from the camera team sent me a photo of my old cab in a bus lane in Manch
I sent back the reply it was a taxi so its OK and not to worry as taxis are allowed in them and now that it has retired it has a bus pass

The Congestion Charge did work in London when it was first introduced in 2002.

However since then, numerous roads have been closed, narrowed and had unnecessary traffic signals installed all designed to slow everything down to a crawl.

That, along with never ending roadworks on every third street and more buses means any advantage gained by the CC (Not CC) has been lost, but the principle of the idea is still good.

If Manchester City Council play their cards correctly, they could be onto a winner with the local Taxi drivers.

London manipulated the situation prior to the CC.......traffic lights out of sync that mysteriously were fixed after the CC were introduced etc.

According to some.

London will always struggle to cope with traffic and roadworks, that's why three years of learning London before you drive a Taxi will always be neccesary.

Most Cities are the same, the CC is just an excuse for legalised extortion.

WTF should anyone pay more than they have to now to drive anywhere?

I still havent been in our town centre since pedestrianisation, and that was 1987 ffs, my wife can do the shopping and if I need anything there's ASDA or the golf club

Can I add to that,the removal of filter lights (Northumberland Ave/Vic.Embk) and the reduction of two lanes to one (thereby reducing the flow and increasing the queues by 50%)?

I read during the week that if manchester council do not introduce the CC the goverment will withold funding for roads.
Talk about blackmail!

Whatever we get in london will always end up elsewhere.

And where does the 'withheld' funding come from?
Manchester taxpayers?
Why should taxpayers outside Manchester have influence on the proposed congestion charge?

Will taxis be exempt?
Livingstone's original plan were for taxis to 'receive a 100% discount'.
Incredibly the trade saw through this scam and got an exemption.
