It has become apparent that in Edinburgh they call it something I can't pronounce or remember how it's spelt and in Newcastle it's called 'flimping' can't see the connection but hey. We call it 'pirating'. Which basically is a problem caused by PH illegally picking up jobs or fares that are not pre-booked through the system or HC's picking up in areas they are not licenced for.

Thought it might be interesting to see what name others put it :D

Its called breaking the law, but why let a small issue like that stand in the way of stealing a fare.

Will you stop allowing small issues like that get in the way of the 'spiriting away' of passengers

Perhaps a cure for all these illigal pickups, flimpimg, cgulling etc could be cured once and for all by getting rid of all private hire vehicles in the country, and replace them with taxis. end of problem......

Ok...I'l try the same Tack..why not get rid of all Taxis and just call us all Private hire but add in a clause where anyone can pick up anywhere anytime thus abolishing the need for Taxis..see it sounds just as bloody stupid an idea.

Ph is a Good system if run by us decent types..we Do not have to adhere to Council dictated Tarriffs and can offer great value for money. Im sure britains a big enough place for both PH and Taxi to live along side each other..and besides , if it were Taxis only you would only end up having a couple of hundred thousand more taxis in direct competition along with their right to Hack or be flagged rather than a few Thousand illegal/nuisance Phlimpers that you currently have to contend with.

With that in Mind PH is better for the Taxi trade than Having a much Larger Taxi base only and no PH..its common sense and simple maths !!!

I don't think anybody would suggest that we do away with PH it's just not logical but what is logical (and I'm sure my head'll be on a stick for this) is we allow all taxis to do both. This works fine for the HC's at the minute so why would it not work fine for the PH. As the case is the council set the maximum fare that can be charged there is always the option for PH bookings to be discounted.
