Hi there,

Created an account to ask you folk a question. I was made redundant from my job at Barratt Homes and have struggled to find work. One thing i thought of was turning my 7 seater into a taxi, and wondered how you go about this. I live in Fife.

Thanks in advance.

Ross

Not sure which bit of Fife you wish to work in, but I would contact you local council and ask for their taxi licensing department. They will be able to furnish you with all the info you need.

I would ask the guys who are doing the job right now what it is like in your area as I would not advise anyone to get in to this game right now unless you are renting a motor as people are cutting back and things are getting tight and if you are on a rental you can walk away if you put your own motor on it will cost you

Hope this helps

Everything is relative to your own personal situation. If you don't need a big income, then driving a taxi might work for you but things are gonna get tough for everyone.

Those with low overheads or money in the bank have the greatest chance of surviving the economic downturn - there will be casualties.

Do what you have to do . . . .

I take it with that username you're from Inverkeithing?

Have a word with the drivers on the Station Rank, they'll put you right, better still observe the movement on the rank for an hour and see how many jobs leave.

Put it another way, last time I was up North and took a cab from there up the M90, the driver behind recognised me from 6 months previously, not because I'm extremely handsome (which I am), but because a fare of £17 is so memorable.

Without putting you off, hundreds of folks turn to the trade when the chips are down, there’s only so much pie to go around.

Buy into the Edinburgh market instead.

I think the chances of a 12/18 months dead bit are quite high.

All areas of Fife are currently restricted, so not much chance of getting plated.

He can get one for tuppence in East Fife.

In fact they're occasionally handed back in, so if you happen to be in the know....
