Sounds as though TOCU are playing their part well. Good Luck to them. Shame the Courts don't back them up, they'd get rid of most of the problem in no time.

The TOUC should be given the power to remove them immediately, without the courts, just remove there badges and roundels, and give them a manditory £500 on the spot fine, and an automatic 8 points on there licences
If the above where to be allowed it would be self financing

Boris increased the manpower in the Tocu squad from 36 to 50.
Thirty arrests amounts to under 1 and 1/2 tout for each officer in 5 months. Money well spent?

They're playing there part..............no so sure about the "well" part though; 30 licences revoked since August 1st 2008 is a start but is not a great deal when you consider the scale of the problem in London though i'm sure a bit of that is contributable to lack of court time and funding.

Courts don't do fast, they do things at their own legal rate.

So if someone was done in August, unless they pleaded guilty, then I'm amazed 30 have been through the courts by now.

Then folks are allowed to appeal, which could take another 3/4/5/6 months, so don't expect to see much happening till the end of the year.

Then we will be able to see if Boris is good to his word.

No, Boris said he will increase the establishment of the Transport Operational Command Unit, thats yet to happen as you don't magic an additional 30 officers from thin air.

These additional officers have to be recruited from within the borough commands, needless to say they in turn will have to wait on more recruits being posted before they can release manpower for other squads.

Needless to say (again) it's not exactly a sought after post going out looking for Taxi touts and being stuck on permanent nights, so I can't see a rush of applicants.

Well you say it lightly Mr AC, but you like any other of the 25'000 London taxi drivers can sign up with the Met as a Special Constable.

After your initial training you can volunteer to work out of any Police Station in London and arrest touts until the cows come home.

A solution perhaps?

How many drivers would consider that?

Again nothing but put downs and twaddle from you.
Since when have special constables had the power of arrest?

Special Constables have the same power of arrest as a regular officer since time began. There's a clue in the word Constable.

I'd suggest if you know nothing about a subject (as usual) you stay quiet on it.

So its you thats talking twaddle . . . again.

Go on MrA, put your money where your mouth is and join up. That would be a sight worth seeing.

Young Mr Grace in uniform. :D

Here's a link for you MrA, it seems you're too old though. :D

http://www.met.police.uk/careers/index.html

The MPS Special Constabulary is a force of volunteers who work with and offer support to regular Metropolitan Police Officers, providing a vital link with the people of London’s 32 Boroughs.

Afforded the same powers as regular officers and wearing the same uniform, Specials are everyday people who are prepared to give up at least eight hours of their spare time each fortnight to do something positive for themselves and their community.

As a Special you will be involved in all aspects of policing London, enjoying a variety of roles and carrying out such duties as:

Foot and vehicle patrols
Anti-Robbery initiatives
Working in schools to talk about safety and crime
Assisting in the event of accidents, fights and fires
Road safety initiatives
House-to-house enquiries
Helping safeguard public safety and security at local or major events
Presenting evidence in court
‘Hotspot’ operations to tackle underage drinking, criminal damage and nuisance/public disorder
Offering crime prevention advice and promoting property marketing initiatives.
While you won’t be paid for your time, your travelling expenses will be covered and you will receive an allowance for refreshments bought while on duty. You will also receive your uniform, together with a further allowance for footwear.

In addition, your training and duties will provide you with a number of intangible personal rewards. Interesting experiences, new friends, additional skills, a sense of achievement – they all ensure that you benefit from your time as a Special as much as the community you serve.

See what I mean,
Nothing but put downs and twaddle. blah blah blah.
You have nothing constructive to bring to the table, only insults, the last result of the simple mind.

That’s your major problem though Mr A, you believe you're correct when in fact you're wrong on 99% of issues concerning the trade, you know little but preach lots, that’s why people think your a few pence short of a pound which ultimately results in you being ignored.

This is also why your latest crackpot scheme to extort money from gullible drivers will ultimately fail, because you and the actor have taken the helm. Two has beens and their dozen lemmings. :-$

I'll bet you'll have a few nice lunches with the money though, perhaps a new hat with a camera?

And the laughable thing is, this time next year there will be no difference, you'll still be on a computer talking Shiite, and preaching to everyone and anyone who will listen.
By being you, you're the Minicab trades greatest ally.

I noted over on the vigilante forum you and the actor have so far received a whole two voices of support, (pardon the pun) speaks volumes don't you think?
