Taxi Driver Online

I need to adjust the kickdown on my 93 fairway.Never did work very well sometimes cuts in if you try and press the pedal through the carpet,most of the time it doesn't...Any suggestions most welcome.

Have you had the gear oil changed and more importantly the gearbox oil filter, this may help

A lot of owners only get the oil changed in there gearboxes and most dont know that the gearboxes have a filter inside, they are as thin as an after 8 mint and can clog up through time and it is these filters that cause most automatic gearbox problems

Going by the age of your cab it will most probably have the BMC engine and gearbox used in the Land rover, but if it has the Nissan one the same rule applies.

There is also the possibility that the kick down cables may need slight adjustment

The Nissan engine was fitted to the Fairway vehicle from January 1989.

Prior to that we had the FX4S Plus model which had a 2.5 Land Rover engine. From mid 'E' reg's to early 'F' regs

Prior to that we had the FX4S which again had the 2.5 Land Rover installed. From mid 'C' regs to early 'E' regs. The 2.5 Rover was better than the 2.2 rover only in terms of power, it went through timing belts on piece and some people fitted cog systems to replace the belts.

Before that we had the FX4R which had a 2.2 Land Rover engine, it was pretty useless and lasted from the old 'Y' registration to the early 'C' reg's.

Before that it was the 2.5 BMC engine, from memory it lasted from 'L' reg (about 1974) to 'Y' reg (1983 ish)

And before that the 2.2 BMC.

I did state either land rover or Nissan so how was I wrong????????????
the only thing I did not know until the encyclopedia Britannica all 36 volumes informed me as to when the engine change was made

You did state (and I quote)

Now bearing in mind the BMC aint been factory fitted since 1982 I think the chances are quite slim.

Quite often............. the cable is Fu*ked....... just replace it..

Twelve replies,sadly few answers.
I'll adjust it and see what happens

Make sure the transmission fluid is at the right level and in good condition, change it if it is not. Replace or adjust the cable as necessary.
If that doesn't work, you may have a more serious and expensive problem.
