What surprises me somewhat is why paul mcglaughlin of delta, was even asked for his reaction on the subject , as his private hire outfit is licenced in and by the' borough' of sefton , if the rickshaws were being introduced in to the bootle strand (thats the main shopping area in sefton ) , i'm sure Merseycabs (liverpools largest hackney cab firm) would not o been asked for their opinion !!

How many bookings do you reckon Delta receive from Liverpool city centre and how many bookings do you reckon Merseycabs receive from Bootle Strand?
Give my regards to Paul...... and wish him a merry Christmas and happy new year

Haven't a clue but it'd be interesting to know. Heard a rumour that they might be expanding to the other side of the tunnel  .........
How come they never bothered to ask Seafourth what they thought about them they cover work inside Liverpool city centre

Sounds interesting. I wonder if they will ask to join the ever expanding meeting of minds round table? Perhaps they have a new message to offer up?

Perhaps one of their numbers might venture onto TDO and give us an insight into the new organisation?

Regards

But for that they would need to be able to read and write.

Delta Taxis, city centre, 24 hour period - about 3,000 bookings. I'd be surprised if Seaforth covered much more than 100 city centre bookings, and I'd be even more surprised if Merseycabs received a single request to pick up in Bootle. It's hard enough for them to get their cabs to respond to radio work within the city centre of Liverpool, let alone 5 miles away...

That's quite a lot for somebody not based in Liverpool or indeed licenced there no wonder it's p*sses everybody off  I'll have to ask to find out how many seaforth do but then to be fair they aren't as big a delta are they. I can appreciate what you're saying about the HC's but it ain't 5 miles from Liverpool city centre to the strand now is it and it's hardly gonna warrant a charge of £30+ like it does if they go through that pipe, all 2 miles of it. I hope the Delta drivers roaming through the tunnel have got their passports

Delta's control centre is based about 4 miles from Liverpool town centre and about 17 miles from Southport town centre.

It doesn't matter where we're licensed BY, it's where we're licensed FOR that counts. Licensed by Sefton to pick up prebookings anywhere in the country. Our biggest customer base is Liverpool.

Seaforth - about 250 cars. Delta - about 1500 cars...

Your not presuming they go 'back to base' are you toots?

It's easier if they sit in an area where they aint licensed.....better for the environment, can you imagine the CO2 usage on return fares?

Jeeze, they'd have to build a rain forest.

Not sure who you mean there by back to base. If you is talking about Delta I wouldn't dream of it they can sit other side of the pipe all night, but, they would miss a lot of work in Liverpool though  If you is talking about the HC's they don't have base as such and I have seen a couple of them flying by the seat of their pants and picking up where they shouldn't be. I note you didn't comment about the £30 charged for a 2 mile trip

As much as the Delta operation disturbs me....their charges are quite reasonable and a lot cheaper than HC's in Liverpool.....if you asked me to go out of my area for a job staying out of my area.....I could charge what I wanted.

I appreciate that but surely there are city limits or something like that. I was under the impression that 2 miles might still be within the city limits and bear in mind that it takes all of 10 mins if that to do a round trip of 2 miles there and 2 miles back. I mean if the customer wants to go further than just outside the pipe the £30 doesn't touch the sides.

The metered rate is only applicable within the district..the customer doesnt have to pay and can get in the next cab?
