I am not from London, I do not work in London, and I haver never owned any LTI product.

I am able to recognise that we are where we are. Because I agree with the Author of this thread that the vito is not a viable alternative choice to the TX4 is an opinion, and nothing more.

I have to have an accessible cab here in sunny Lincoln, and I would not replace my present cab with a vito.

Only this morning, an intending passenger showed a preference for my Metrocab, over an 08 "builders van" as he described it. A not unusual occurence, by the way.

what year is your metrocab, what will you replace it with when the time comes?

i dont recall the metrocab being at the forefront of vehicle design, innovation or comfort for either passenger or driver...

i much prefer the armchair comfort (for me and passengers) provided in my vehicle, lets be fair, who wants to go 10 miles in "a cab"

no contest is it

Jimbo

If everything you say is true, purpose built taxis would be the first choice for any taxi driver. They wouldn't need a monopoly to make them viable. That as we know is not the case. Except where councils demand them, they are not popular and do not sell in large numbers. Even where Wheelchair access is required, purpose built taxis (and I still question the purpose they were built for) are a small minority of the cabs sold. Converted vans, minibuses and estates sell in much higher numbers.
This is fact. Your purpose builts only sell well where drivers have no choice.

BTW Sharan/Galaxy was never produced as a van

That's a good point, Gusmac.

We have about 260 HCs in the borough.

A few years ago, a guy tried leasing a load of TX vehicles, probably about 20, and filled them with drivers. Initially, they werre everywhere.

Now, some 5/6 years on, there is only one PCO style vehicle in the borough. There are probably about 20 WAVs of varying makes that are all individually owned by the drivers.

You never know.

Might be Skippies New year resolution to answer a question without resorting to puerile jokes or questioning other contributors sexual orientation.

I won't hold my breath though.

Electric door and rear wheel steer= loads of trouble!
TBH, I think the van derived cabs are the best, they have been used as commercial vehciles and can stand the strain our work gives them.
