DIAmond Advanced Taxi Test
More and more local authorities are insisting upon an assessment of driving ability before issuing a licence to trade as a taxi or private hire driver.
DIAmond

Only for new drivers, our council aren't insisting on the tests.

JD can I point out that the NVQ probably won't teach experienced drivers a whole lot

Well what will it teach them? Has it ever occured to you that these so called trainers have not an ounce of the experiance and knowledge that many in the taxi trade have accumulated?

but it will extract knowledge that they already have and make them more aware of it and the proper time to use this knowledge.

I don't understand your statement extract knowledge they already have and make them more aware of it? If the trainers aren't as knowledgeable as the drivers how hell will they be able to extract their knowledge. Shouldn't the drivers be teaching the trainers in that case?

Do we take a test with punters in the car then or just the "examiner"? :?

taxi - private vehicle

whats the difference when driving, except of course, HC are allowed to cut up others, hog lanes, stop without signalling, make u-turns, speed, in fact most of the things bus drivers are also allowed to do

Our assessors are trained to the highest standard they are DSA driving instructors , and accredited DIAmond advanced Taxi

If you are offering free DSA 'Taxi' tests, then you could be popular. If not, then you can join the queue of folks telling us how to do our job better.

Maybe you should approach councils and ask them to refer to you drivers that accrue X number of points on their licenses. In that way your qualified testers could be of use.

I started the NVQ on Monday.... the class consists of seven Liverpool hackney drivers, myself, and 12 Delta private hire drivers....... not impressed at all..... they started off showing the class a film regarding customer-care, the examples were a white driver in a tatty old banger that was filthy , he himself was a slob, cigarette hanging out of his mouth and arguing with the passengers and not carrying their shopping... and the contrast was a smartly dressed Asian driver in a nice clean car, who was polite and carried the shopping.

After passing my driving test in Germany not the army one but the public one, in 1979 and having to do the theory test long before it was introduced here, first aid and simple mechanical checks and even autobahn driving while learning and skid pan handling, so when I came back here, and started Skippy's taxis in 1981.
I attended an advanced driver open day about 27 years ago, and actually took the test, and I only had one small fault, that was not griping the gear stick properly.
Before the actual driving test folk where asked to perform driving maneuvers like all types of parking, slalom course forward and reverse and gap judgment

But I think it would be like trying to tell your granny how to suck eggs in 95% of cases
