I started the NVQ on Monday.... the class consists of seven Liverpool hackney drivers, myself, and 12 Delta private hire drivers....... not impressed at all..... they started off showing the class a film regarding customer-care, the examples were a white driver in a tatty old banger that was filthy , he himself was a slob, cigarette hanging out of his mouth and arguing with the passengers and not carrying their shopping... and the contrast was a smartly dressed Asian driver in a nice clean car, who was polite and carried the shopping.

The VRQ MrT ????????????????????????????????

B. Lucky :D

Oh you haven't started the paper trail yet then what joy awaits you if you continue to the NVQ and if you don't do you have to pay for your VRQ?
It's the VRQ which then goes on to the NVQ.....Toots if I do not finish the course it will be because they have thrown me out.... which nearly happened on Monday.....JD.. they are trying to teach a private hire course to hackney drivers.......PS.... The one thing I am happy with is that it is called the.....TAXI and private hire qualification.....

It's really strange because where I did mine was more HC related. In fact they tended to keep us seperate because of this difference. Having said that we have had the PH lads being able to have a go at a WAV and getting wheelchair in it, which I have to say is not the easiest thing in the world. Anyway good luck and try an stay calm :)

Somebody is in for a nervous breakdown .... and it will not be me...

Take an apple in for the tutor to the next session MrT, I for one would be very pleased to have someone with your experience on the course.

The VRQ course covers both licenses because it should be delivered pre-licence grant, the NVQ has a different pathway for HC and PH and can only be achieved when licensed.

I think you may be confusing the Numeracy and Literacy tests with Skills for Life training, but if you did decide that you needed to brush up or improve your own knowledge then you should be applauded for wanting to improve your own skills and knowledge.

www.direct.gov.uk/en/EducationAndLearni ... G_10039031

Subjects available
Skills for Life Certificates are available in:

adult literacy
adult numeracy
information and communications technology (ICT)
There is also a Skills for Life qualification in English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL).

Is it any wonder I get confused when it appears to me that they are one in the same qualification (that being the 'Skills for Life' & 'Adult literacy & Numeracy') sometimes I can be soooooo blonde Image

We are a team of experienced driver trainers , with a wide range of experience and qualifications. We do have assessors with who started their career in the taxi / bus and coach driving industry

You say some started their careers as taxi/bus & coach driving can you tell us how many were taxi drivers, for how long and how long ago?

Anyway back to my original question of 'How many have actually been taxi drivers, for how long and how long ago'

fook me, is that what being a HC is all about?

I bet the PH drivers ( aka retards in some minds ) were dead chuffed, what a life-changing opportunity....to push a wheelchair

so ex-ambulance drivers should make perfect HC drivers then?

ive heard some borrox in my time but this is pushing the envelope a bit

I've been to see our LO today and he said they weren't making the NVQ test compulsory. Happy days in our manor.

At a rough guess I would say a bit fat zero.

Does that matter?

My French teacher wasnt French, my English teacher wasnt an author, my Science teacher wasnt Einstein, my PE teacher wasnt an Olympic Athlete.

It's the quality of the course and how its explained, not if the person teaching it is actually or was a cab driver.....indeed, bearing in mind some of the cab trade, perhaps we should steer well clear of cab drivers!
