Taxi driver loses licence after allegations of exposure

A taxi driver who allegedly exposed himself to a young passenger has had his licence revoked.

Teesside Magistrates Court upheld the decision of Stockton Borough Council’s Licensing Committee to remove Adnan Mahmood’s Hackney Carriage and Private Hire Driver’s licence.

It followed a complaint of alleged indecent exposure to a young, lone woman in the early hours of May, 3 last year.

Mahmood, 31, of Northcote Street, Stockton, had appealed against the initial decision to revoke his licence after claiming he was not driving the vehicle at that time.

Councillor Steve Nelson, Cabinet member for housing and community safety and protection at Stockton, said, "I would warn all licensed drivers with this council that such behaviour will not be tolerated.

"The safety of passengers is paramount. The granting of a licence puts drivers in a position of trust and therefore any substantiated complaints of this nature will result in disciplinary action being taken."

Hang him upside down then cut his swingers off then let him bleed to death.

The offense is ALLEDGED to have taken place. Whatever happened to innocent until proven guilty?

wasn't it on the news that a policeman has just been done for doing something similar in front of a 15 year old girl ?

If you are in a position of responsibilty you also must behave responsibly. that said it is important to keep an open mind it is all too easy to walk into a police station and make an accusation !

He still maybe proven innocent, but the council and magistrates have deemed the allegations serious enough to remove his license, presumably until such time as he is proven innocent.

I seem to recall seeing minutes from meetings regarding this, apparently there are previous allegations and he was permitted to continue to drive.

I wouldn't want to lack originality while committing an offence that's for sure

Maybe he wasn't driving the vehicle at the time perhaps the person driving the vehicle looks like him. I've had customers say to me that they weren't sure that the driver of a taxi was the same person in the photo on the badge but they couldn't be sure. :?

I'm not sure about Scotland but in England the local authorities when considering those before them work on the basis of Civil Law (the balance of probabilities) not Criminal Law (beyond resonable doubt).

Additionally last year the 76 act was changed and allows LA's to take away licenses for such allegations.

I understand the position regarding civil law and the removing of the drivers license. My comments regarding innocent until proven guilty were in reply to Nigel wanting to "Hang him upside down then cut his swingers off then let him bleed to death." :D

good use of the word 'if' we must obviously give a fair trial before we "Hang him upside down then cut his swingers off then let him bleed to death."
