Yes but the 2.7 Nissan lump was just the dirtiest diesel you could get. Smoke every where. For all its failings (and I have yet to have an engine failure of any kind and I have 3 TX2's over 100k mark) the Ford lump is much much cleaner.
The 2.7 Nissan engine simply cannot be made to run anywhere near as clean as the Ford lump.

Here in London, the Fairway and the TX1 have had a Livingstone's emissions systems installed.
These (visually) produce a cleaner exhaust than TX11s.
Also the TX1 has a better mpg than the TX11.

The Nissan engine is a lot cleaner than the Tx11 Ford
If you want to swap you have to change the engine mountings for a start then the gearbox, then hydraulics for the clutch, then the pedal box, then the prop-shaft,then the battery etc etc etc.

how much do you reckon the price would be to change from 2.4 ford to a 2.7 nissan inc the price of a secondhand engine and everything else needed

Would it not be a better idea to buy a fairway as a donor vehicle?

Well average cost of a donor engine conversion to a car if its the complete job is around £5k if you pay a company to do the complete conversion.

Surely that sort of cash will pay for some serious work on a TX2 (new suspension and bushes all round, trans rebuild, new brakes all round, plus servicing for the next few years.

Surely that would be the wisest way to spend the cash if you already have a TX2.
Plus all that work means the TX2 is worth more when it comes to selling if you have the receipts.
You could even throw in a retrim and respray, a new indash DVD, CD, Sat nav system and finally a leather recaro drivers seat.
I know what I would rather do and before you ask I could easily do all that for £5k.
:D

Just to broaden the discussion.
With the cost of diesel remaining 10p per litre (45p per gallon) higher than petrol and diesel emission tests becoming increasing more difficult and expensive;has anyone thought of putting a petrol engine into a TX11?

I think the weight of the vehicle would soon put pay to the difference between the cost of derv and petrol.
