Why should it be made mandatory? A lot of private hire cars do executive type work. Are you saying that this type of work should also be on a meter? Most airport jobs are not on a meter. How many hacks do out of area jobs on the meter?

So how do the public know your not ripping them off :?:
I can understand out of area runs like of going to airports and further afield, but for runs all within your own area the meters must be on from A to B
It is the best way forward and could stop the ilegal pick ups by bogus cars, I dont think it will stop ilegal pick ups but that would need the councils and the police to stop that if they would only do the job they are paid to do

So how do the public know its the right tariff.....half the daft b*stards get in the cab at 11pm and ask if its £23 quid already!

You dont seem to grasp the concept of private hire......get a book and read up, then come back and tell me how many differing types of PH business there are.

And then tell me a limo firm needs a meter, or a horse and cart, or a stupid bus.....or the ford cortina mark 3 owners club PH section (go where you like just like the sweeney).

as section 71 in the second paragraph says that if the are fitted they must have the same tariff as the hacks

The PH vehicles that have meters here have different tariffs to the HC's and are sealed. It doesn't say that they have to have the same tariff has a HC.

Thats where the public get confused they may get a PH to go out on the town, and end up getting a hack home and be charged a different rate, causing even more animosity between them both.

If there where no number restrictions on hacks there would be hardly any need for PH,
They only started because of the restrictions placed on hack numbers

This happens anyway even with Hacks. Sometimes they use meters, sometimes they don't. The driver uses the wrong tarrif or he adds a pick up charge.

But they aren't are they and in most areas they never will be. You can put in whatever you like to make things the same but some will never use them.

It seems to me that skippy wants a single tier taxi system and IMO it could be done with planning and organisation.

Perhaps you should just hire a cab from an existing plate holder. Some people think it's in your best interests 8)
