From London:

The TTT Metrocab with the Toyota engine meets Euro 3

The TX2 with the Ford engine meets Euro 3

The late TX1's (T - 51 reg - check first) meet Euro 2

The others, Fairways and TX1's up until the Y plate were Euro 1.

An emission conversion kit such as the 'Taxi Cat' can be fitted for around £1500, this will take you up to Euro 3.

One of the many notices from the Public Carriage Office website from around 2005 outlining the emissions policy.

Plenty more reading at:

So looking at the above, if you have an LTI Taxi that was registered from the end of 1998 onwards, you will be Euro 2.

GBC forgot to add that most (if not all) of the 'add-on' emission systems don't work.
TX11 are notorious for blowing out black clouds of smoke.
Some of it comes from the exhaust...

black smoke and emissions arent the same thing

most diesels now have a wonderful gizmo called an EGR, which is SUPPOSED to reduce NOX emissions, by recirulating exhaust gases, it may well do that job but most cause so much smoke you cant see the NOX.....or maybe thats how they planned it...

Ive had 2 Tdci ford engined vehicles in 2 years and had to unplug the pipes and defeat the EGR, so blame me for the global warmings...

The system I had fitted worked fine, sadly the company went bust.

If none of the systems worked, we would'nt have any Fairways ar TX1's on the road, this was the LCDC doing their usual sensationalist bit, which cost them thousands of pounds in a failed (from day 1) court case.

The TX2 does smoke, but most of that comes down to the exhuast gas recircultaion valve (EGR) which collects a lot of sooty deposits.

May I quote an earlier posting.
"Many drivers with the emissions systems add additives for the emission test before testing. This shows what a failure Livingstone's emissions plan is. "

I've never claimed to agree with the whole emissions debarcle, I can only state that the Van Aaken system that I had fitted worked.

I've always used an additive in the way of a Powerpill on every fill up, but thats more for the engine, albeit it benefits the emission readings as well.

Do the additives in anyway harm the 'add on' emission systems?
Also do they work?
Why add them?

Well, our LA are now sending out guidance on this matter.

Euro 1 up to 1996 vehicles.

Euro 2 from 96 to 2000.

Euro 3 2000 to 2005.

Euro 4 2005 to 20????

So, that means P and R reg fairways are ok for this year as far as out LA are concerned.
