Well as this mess has been rushed through in nine days, we need time to lobby the opposition councillors, prove (again) the LO is a twit 1st Class and put up candidates against the Councillors who pushed this through. There are many things that can be changed when you have time to plan. This was an ambush.

Just hope SODA get more than 5 months to build up their case.

I'm surprised at the result really after having a read of the TPI survey which pointed to favouring regulation of plates via evidence of no unmet demand.

So the rumours were right? I take it they changed their policy without first consulting with stakeholders? That would put Stockport in a similar position to Watford but is this decision going to the full council? Who is the legal team representing the cab drivers?

There is no legal way the council can eventually lose but I suppose as far as the cab trade is concerned it is all about gaining time. How much time can they gain overall, possibly nine months or more.

Regards

JD

It would appear that Stockport are a Lib Dem controlled area with 35 councilors, 14 Labour, 10 conservative and 1 Independant. Maybe contact Norman Baker, shadow Lib Dem minister and seek his opinion?

According to the minutes the policy change is affective immediately but I understand applicants must meet a certain criteria one of which includes being a badge holder and living in Stockport. I think the criteria was mentioned in the report to committee.

lol I don't think so. If you dregulate you deregulate, I would like to see such a policy defended in court but the stockport LO has his own ideas about licensing law.

You may get your wish.
I can see someone challenging that fairly quickly.

Which part isn't legal, the bit about "living in Stockport"?

All of it.

If there is a restriction on who can obtain a license then the policy isn't one of deregulation.

And the chances of that being legal? Maybe 0% at best.

Something called the 'Treaty of Rome'.

I live in Rome can I have a plate? Easyjet £1.99 return.

JD where did you find the minutes to last nights meeting? I have searched the SMBC web section and cannot find them yet.

Thanks

The minutes won't be completed until next week. I actually spoke to the licensing committee clerk who writes up the minutes and he gave me an accurate breakdown.
