What's being bone idle got to do with it???

You obviously don't work an area where there are 100's if not 1000's of cabs.

You'd soon get p!ssed off sitting on ranks all day with cabs pulling off around you.

You clearly don't read your own posts then.

so a punter should also be forced to use the first PH he rings for a price then....

No but I don't suppose you'd be best pleased if you turned up for the punter and found out they just left in another PH that quoted 50p less than you, or had a nicer motor.

BTW has it ever occured to you why cabs on a rank generally line up one behind the other? If it were the intended purpose of the rank for the customer to pick whatever cab they wanted, wouldn't it be easier if they parked side by side?

They do in Market Harborough!

As I've hinted at before, Tigger evolves once more.

Busy rank, I'm second cab punter is at window of cab in front of me as girl gets into my cab as I pull away I notice that cab in front is empty..... It happens.

Thing is as I.m passing I wind down the window and say to the driver something like, "Sorry mate she's already in" The driver gives me a dirty look.

Now as far as I'm concerned when it's busy there is no point in turfing the punter out. I seriously doubt if the driver in front had to wait more than a couple of mins for the next fare. On a quiet afternoon it may have been different.

What do others think?

You were right.

Don't mess the punter around.

exactly, what the punter wants, the punter can have, ill get in any HC on a rank, and if he refuses the fare ill remind him he cant do that...

snd BTW, i HAVE been HC, and I have sat on a rank, and "any car will do, get in any" was the rule

I was pulled in front of cab enforcement officer for not taken a fare when i was second car on the rank. After interview he said there was no case to answer. The taxi rank at Dundee station has always had an unwritten rule that first taxi gets first job and thankfully most drivers stick to this.

I don't think I was wrong. I thought (wrongly) that the cab in front had a fare. If it had been quiet then when I realised I would have asked the punter to get out and get the other cab but as it was busy I didn't see the point.

same end result

i cannot believe that any ranked HC honestly expects that being at the front secures the next job, ive lost count how many times i had waited to get to the front only for the base op to call "next on the rank, please go to....."
