TBH I see where your coming from.....but I have to say whilst I disagree with JD on practically everything....he has always cited quality controls.....I cant say why he has been, in your opinion quiet on the issue of Stockport....but in defence (and this don't come natural) he has been ill for a couple of months....and he's even apologised to the site for being absent and off form.

I understand you suspicions.....the Stockport plate issue of last year was scantily reported.....perhaps that is your point? But he isn't the only one that posts here from that area.....I cant say I even knew there was anything going on there till last week.

TBH the decision in Stockport came as a surprise to JD....he even suggested they'd stay regulated after looking at the report didn't he?

Thanks CC. Didn't know you had ben ill JD, hope you are on the mend.
My impression, and I could be wrong (wouldn't be the first time) was that JD would blow all restricted councils apart - including Manchester. I just thought that he had changed his tune. My logical/illogical conclusion was that he now had become a plate holder so feck everybody else. I feel very strongly about that, that's all. That is how it appeared to me

I'm still at pains as to why such an opinion would wind you up. This has happened every day of the year, for the last 100 years.

Maybe it's a bit much to say it's the norm, but isn't it? :?

If I say your thoughts did cross my own mind you'd know where I was coming from.....however, if you read through the post and article he did about the printworks in Manchester......knowing the possibility was a LA going for deregulation, then perhaps you may change your view.

As for the posts of my dear rail station, I have to admit he was 100% wrong.....but forgive and forget, in my view he answers people to the best of his ability and I have always said he is wasted (sh*t I hope the old b*gger aint reading this)

Hi JD
New to the site and a whole blog just for little old me? Well I do declare [best Southern Belle impression]. Am I unclean or what?? :?:

Post 3 was probably the jist of my beef with you JD. Not that I have got anything personal with you, it is just that certain things get my goat. If you ken what I am saying.

I can't really say welcome to the forum because it would appear you have been here as long as any of us, except in the capacity of poster?

Considering all the high profile topics we have discussed over the years I find it rather amusing that my comments with regard to the current situation in Stockport have struck a chord?

All that aside I will give you the courtesy of a response.

The simple answer to your question in post 3 is "no".

Having an opinion on how deregulation should be delivered and being an arch derestrictionist are worlds apart. My opinion on deregulation has always had two elements and nothing more. The first is the question of "equality" and the second is restriction by way of "quality" controls, with the emphasis on very strong "driver" controls. That has always been my position but I have always said that without strong quality controls deregulation will not work and there is every likelihood that an over provision will occur. Dublin is a prime example of no quality controls.

My opinion on both Stockport and Salford are freely available to read but I would like to put your mind at ease and inform you that I do not hold a Stockport plate, I have never held one in the past and I have no ambition to obtain one in the future. Neither did I get a plate by way of the court case in 2008.

I don't know what rumours are circulating in Stockport about JD but if people wish to discuss me then that is their perogotive I have no qualms about that.

The fact remains that if anyone approaches me for advice no matter what side of the trade they be then they will get a frank appraisal of the facts. What they do with that appraisal is entirely up to them but I place no prohibition on their freedom to discuss the information or its source with anyone they choose.

I don't know if that is the type of answer you expected but I hope it goes someway in clearing up my financial involvement in Stockport.

Regards

JD

Quick post 'cos I am going to bed. You are not as stupid as you are making out JD. I didn't suggest that you had an interest in Stockport I suspected you may have had a newly aquired interest in Manchester. Your non-answer has probably confirmed my suspicions.

I am not the person you blatantly think I am so just judge me on my comments not on what you suspect my motives are :-o The reason I posted was as I said; people who create unrest in regulated towns because they have nothing to lose wind me up. Peoples lives get ruined and the taxi trade loses.

Whilst I am at it I will respond to Sussex as he will no doubt be looking at this and it is in keeping with the subject. Manchester currently has (or seems to have) an organised, modern, professional looking taxi service with a managed growth policy and a wheelchair accessible fleet albeit COF. Why is that not a good policy??

Didn't know that was the case. I know they have a survey, I thought they followed recommendations. But they certainly have managed growth so everybody seems to get a result 8)
