What would happen if one of those [edited by admin] who was a private hire driver decide to become a hackney driver, would his status improve overnight?

Yes.

Unless, of course, he wanted to run his own car. :?

He bank balance wouldn't if he worked like a taxi driver, instead of a PH driver with a license to ply.

Having done both PH and Hackney work I can categorically deny that. I'm making more money whilst driving as a PH driver than a Hackney driver.

PH are unrestricted yet cannot cope with demand.

If I try to book a PH at 7:30pm on a Friday or Saturday I am told I must wait at least an hour.

If I try to book a PH to pick me up from town at 11:30pm or 2:15am on either night I'm told the wait is even longer.

How then, can allowing PH vehicles to pick up from the streets offer the customers a better service, when the waiting time for a legitimate booking has greater waiting times than if I were to stand on a rank and wait for a taxi.

The simple fact of the matter here is that the drivers best interest are considered, by the driver, to be primary and the needs of the consumer to be secondary within both codes.

I don't believe that a HC should work from a PH office and I don't believe that PH should ever be able to do street work, I have said this many times and have asked this same question just as many, people don't wish to answer because it would show their own shortcomings.

I would agree totally with that quote, the majority of PH drivers on here see the queues outside nightclubs 3 nights a week and think I should be able to get a piece of that the HC lads can't cope what they fail to consider are the regular customers of theirs being let down on a weekly basis while they are out plying for hire or how much more work they could attract if they were able or willing to take everyone home that they had took out earlier.

Don't know what side their bread is buttered.

Grass is always greener.

Give me , give me, give me.

This world owes me a living.

Etc etc etc

yes it has been answered!
you want to participate in a racket

lets answer it again
all taxi work both off street and point to point is taxi hackney carriage work
the other stuff private hire is stuff that used to be done by wedding and funeral cars

private hire shouldnt really exist at all.

they are now and always have been pirates.

Not sure if you understood what I wrote, but anyway, when I said I have drove PH and Hackney, they were at different times and for me I make more money whilst driving a PH.

I understood what you wrote and agreed with it.

I don't understand why some PH drivers believe that their earnings will improve if they got a HC.

There are, of course, advantages to owning a HC but more earnings is not one of the benefits.

Probably because in most towns and cities Hackneys are dearer and charge extra from 11pm/midnight till the early hours.

That all changed in Southport when all 3 of the PH firms in Southport decided to also charge Tariff 2 from midnight till 5am and when two of the firms changed their prices they were exactly the same as Hackneys mile for mile in price with the third firm slightly cheaper.
