Many years ago before my ph company went vat registered, i used to offer a rent/buy a car option for my existing drivers. They could rent or buy a fully licensed/ph tested, ready to work car from me and end up purchasing it if they kept the car for the minimum amount of time. All repairs/maintenance costs were paid by the driver if they wanted to buy the car, i covered the costs for those that took the rental option. The purchase option in particular proved very popular with the drivers.

What deals on cars do your company's offer to you?
do you insure the car yourself?
who pays the maintenance/repair bills?

I want to find the car deals you like best so that i can offer my drivers the best deal both for them and for me.

at the top end of the robbing scale....

sell a car on at 50-100% more than it costs, they have to use you repair it (assuming you have a workshop), you sell em part of your block insurance (adding 100% mark up) then cream 33% off account work they cant afford to turn down, and most bases then feed thier own cars without fear of being moaned at, oh, and when the car breaks down they have to borrow out of account monies not due for 6 weeks so arent earning, are whittling away at accounts due in and still paying radio rent whilst the cars on the ramps...

but im not bitter..........

Let me explain further, when i previously sold/rented cars it was because a lot of my drivers couldn't get finance. The way i saw it if i could offer a service to these guy's, and it works for us both, we all benefit and so that's where i am at now, i'm looking for a deal that suits both parties.

Of course there needs to be a small mark up on the sale price but i've never charged anything like 50-100%. I dont have a workshop at the moment, and we don't deduct anything from account work, we pay accounts 1 week in arrears, and feeding cars just gets on everyone's t**s so whats the point? We dont operate any company cars now, so no block insurance either.

I can include any or all of the above, if thats what drivers want.....so what's the best deals you know are being offered that are beneficial to both parties?

The drivers could not get normal credit, so you provided them with a means to buy their own car by paying you a weeky sum. That is providing credit isn't it. I hope you were a licensed credit broker.

I didn't but at the time my wife held a consumer credit license, turned out we didn't need one though as we rented the cars to the drivers, if they made the minimum rental period we gave them the car at the end of the agreed time, so no credit agreement required.

Some of Our owner drivers rent cars from a guy that has a workshop, trouble is the cars are pretty much scrap since most have done the rounds for a few years, when they break down he just bodges it to get them back on the road. I'm looking to supply decent vehicles that will last.
