Lets get this into some form of context
Drink is cheaper in the supermarkets
The smoking ban has stopped smokers from going out so the stay at home and drink
Folk are worried about loosing there jobs so are not spending.
The whole country if not the world is fecked

Most drivers work for someone so they have to hand over settle regardless of how good a day/week they have had, and as time goes by they will be better off on the dole.

Only owner drivers have a chance of survival in today's climate, especially those who have the phone connected strait to them and they offer a good service like getting out of the cabs and giving the punters a shout in the pubs or helping with the cases and shopping to the door.
I have many older folk and they really are appreciative of the service I provide so remember that £3.00 run could turn out to be 3 or 4 time a week and if like me you have loads of them they soon mount up.
Go back to old fashioned values try to be on time respect the punters and always be courteous.
BTW, last night was a dam good one

I thought you meant that age old 60 /40 split bag thing you still have up there in heathen country

Mind you, a good percentage of the trade around here have their own regulars.....the £20 - £30 jobs that they do below the rate....cutting the throats of the rest of us.

I pay for the running of my car, I pay for the fuel....you go to work and give me 60% of your takings

When can you start?

Yes we still have the split bag system, we still have drivers that should be classed as employees but are not.
Those that have regulars are free to under cut if they wish as long as the meter is on from A to B or give a quote if its an out of zone run

I like the selective nature of this.....if a radio circuit is to run properly nobody should have regulars....the circuit should.

Wrong CC Toots would be an employee in that scenario, so the minimum wage would apply plus overtime rates

Years and years ago there were companies in High Wycombe running a 75/25 split and they still managed to get drivers

There is good and bad in both systems although I wouldn't be inclinded to work to hard if I was giving 40% to somebody else. Having said that if I don't earn enough on our circuit I'd be handing over a larger %. It's a good job I get tips and I is a lucky person and so far seem to do ok

Most have contracts, so they tell the drivers what time they have to be out by, then they give them a split bag out of that bag the driver pays the fuel, or half of it while the owner pays for everything else,
There is one company that insists that the drivers start at 10Am on a Sunday after they have worked until at least 5 Am one told me today he had dropped in Coldstream at 5.30 AM so he would not have got to his bed before 6Am and they have to work all day until 1.30Am tomorrow morning.
There is another owner who rents out his cars at £25 a day and he pays the fuel out of the takings but he and his drivers never use the meter and under cut everyone
Some of the drivers are not the full shilling here and cannot see the wood for the trees
