Because not all operators are as perhaps so forthcoming or as honest as yourself....and there are many tales about drivers 'buying' cabs which are sheds by the time their paid for, and in the process they are well and truly the surfs of the operator.

Id guess, assuming a radio at £60 per week, Insurance at £50 and a car at £150-£200 that the hirer will need to take £500-£600 to see any profit allowing for tyres, fuel, servicing, etc.

but its not what id want to attempt

who is going to plate the vehicles, the owner or the hirer?

Now i get it, i'm genuine though and just want to offer a service that some drivers reply on, if i can do that my owners gain and i gain...simple as that, no hidden agenda here.

No doubt you are genuine....and I have no reason to doubt what you say, indeed, as I originally stated....it was a pretty brave post considering what can and does go on by more unscruplous operators.

Try reading my original and second post on this thread again and you'll see that i'm asking for suggestions on what deal you the drivers like....not how much debt i can get you into.

What deals on cars do your company's offer to you?
do you insure the car yourself?
who pays the maintenance/repair bills?

Down here the general rules for renting are the driver pays the rent vehicle/radio, and the owner pays the insurance and maintenance.

Thanks for that, i know that there are some bad operators, but i joined here (TDO) to get the views of the drivers because after all the customers and the drivers are both my customers in effect.

I'm sure someone will come up with something constructive....I've been waiting 5 or 6 years....but eventually I hope that something constructive will be said

Is that the deal you want though as the hirer/driver or would you prefer different arrangements?

Let me explain further, when i previously sold/rented cars it was because a lot of my drivers couldn't get finance. The way i saw it if i could offer a service to these guy's, and it works for us both, we all benefit and so that's where i am at now, i'm looking for a deal that suits both parties.

I would imagine that's the case now throughout the UK.

You should be able to buy/insure a Skoda for £100 a week, or there a bouts. So if you charge £150 a week, on top of your radio rent, then you should be covered for on-going maintenance, insurance, car tax and licensing fees.

I think it works, maybe because it allows drivers to work hard/long hours and not have the worry about the costs should the motor be off the road.

but thats how base owners reel in drivers then keep em in line, in debt and gagging to work 24/7

always has been always will be

OK, make the cars £100 a week with insurance and radio included, but will that cover what you want to make, more importantly, is Lincoln needing the service? (i.e. can the cars make a profit)

a simple "renting" agreement means they hirer can walk away if it gets to the point stacking shelves in Asda is worth more, leaving the base with a spare car sitting idle

if its that good an earner, why not PAYE a driver and keep all the takings?, national minimum wage is £5.80/hr? so over £15/hr is all yours, clear profit....

Stranger things have happened somebody may come up with something constructive, but, in the meantime what would you class as constructive
