Taxi Driver Online

Apparently our esteemed council have failed two new vehicles recently over the tinted windows. Both were Peugeots and drivers told to get new glass fitted before they could be licensed. Drivers then find out no glass in country or France. Back to the council and believe that driver is allowed to continue working but timescale given. Anyone else have problems with tinted windows. Have to give 75% light through windscreen and 70% all rest before they will pass. Someone said those that failed were down to about 50%.

of course we should know by now that LAs dont look at the law, but at what THEY decide should or shouldnt be, like those that wont plate certain vehicles which Ford/VW or Merc sell by the thousands, so if the ysay "no tints" its 100% no tints, not 40% or 49% light transfer, but NO tints, despite the cost of changing, thats IF they can be changed...

I believe there are good reasons behind the no tint thing and there is definately an advantage to be able to see into the vehicle.

Here we go again.
I have the rear tinted glass, as I have no boot. Plus the people are not blinded when they are sitting facing the headlights.

What’s the difference between tints and blinds none what so ever

whats goes on inside the vehicle is recorded by 4 cam's

Does this tinted window thing only affect newly plated cars or does it affect cars which are already plated ie would they fail when they went in for there annual test if they were found to be to dark?

If the windscreen and the front windows are clear thats all thats required by law, and for these Peugeot's to be sold in the UK they must have had the blessing of Vosa

I've never quite worked out why folks need blacked out windows in a taxi/PH.

What is being hidden?

Dundee has a strange policy,private hire can have tinted windows but hacks can not.

Dundee also do not allow the Peugeot on with its tinted rear window a friend of mine bought a demonstrator to put on & found this out to his cost ended up having to sell it at a loss even though he only owned it for a week.

I also tried to put on a superb elegance with tinted windows from the b pillar back & the garage I purchased the car from changed all the glass to standard at a cost of a £1,000.00 & they picked up the bill.

Almost ALL new cars have TINTED glass, its the question of "blacked out"* thats at issue, the tints serve to dim sunlight and cool the interior, so wheres the problem so long as it complies with the law?
