Forgot all about OFT.

How can anyone say a PH can take bookings for outside an area, yet HCs can't? :?

Methinks Mr Button got that bit wrong.

The return booking will be seen as either a continuation.....or will have been made before you leave your area.....and if it hasnt been shhhh I wont say anything.

Cross border hiring 7.2 Taxis can take passengers from within their licensed area to other LAs but cannot accept bookings for passengers or ply for hire outside the area in which they are licensed. PHVs can take passengers from any point to any other providing the PHV driver, vehicle and operator are licensed in the same area. We believe that the current position on cross border hiring adversely affects consumers and drivers to a limited extent but accept that local licensing and enforcement procedures make cross border hiring difficult to implement.

I've only just noticed that, but basically it boll**ks. ](*,)

From where/whom was it quoted from? :?

Doesn't matter a toss where the booking is to, or from, just where it was taken.

Well I'm not quite sure we have dealt with that, but then I'm not quite sure we can. :D

How about the pros and cons of section 16 of the 1985 Transport Act?

16 Taxi licensing: control of numbers The provisions of the Town Police Clauses Act 1847 with respect to hackney carriages, as incorporated in any enactment (whenever passed), shall have effect—
(a)as if in section 37, the words “such number of” and “as they think fit” were omitted; and
(b)as if they provided that the grant of a licence may be refused, for the purpose of limiting the number of hackney carriages in respect of which licences are granted, if, but only if, the person authorised to grant licences is satisfied that there is no significant demand for the services of hackney carriages (within the area to which the licence would apply) which is unmet.

I presume that you are referring to this?

Indeed, as (a) only applied between 1847 and 1985.
