After reading how much you charge for a fully services vehicle, could I point out that you could buy a brand new car with insurance and meter fitted for less than £100 per week, and by putting another £25 away each week to cover servicing
So the driver would save £800 a month getting his own rather than paying you

Not guilty ma' lord.

the "benefactor" wants to help out the £38K/year drivers who cant get HP....(/quote)

BTW, when ive rented a radio for a week, thats 24hrs a day 7 days a week, no extra to pay, and if i choose to pay for a drivers badge to man it an extra shift i dont see how i should pay more radio rent/settle, anyone who falls for paying extra (or double even) needs to check out the local bases to see if they do the same), after all, i COULD choose to work 18 hour shifts, would that cost more?

I am not aware of any of any of my past/current drivers that clear £38k per year after costs, what ever gave you that idea? You certainly didn't get it from me!

Individual drivers are limited to work no longer than 12 hour shifts on my circuit (safety issue), however where i come from commission drivers (jockeys) may also drive the owners car for a further 12 hour's at a charge of only £2.00 per shift (they can even manage to pay for there own PH license). Not a bad deal for all concerned if you ask me, at the moment our circuit rent is the cheapest in town bar none, 180 drivers can't all be wrong or can they? probably not as no other PH/hackney company in my area has more drivers!

well it wasnt me who said your firm handled 93* cars and £4Mill of fares

= £38K per unit

*now 110

PS, after so long as a PRIVATE HIRE boss, you above all people should know you cant use the word TAXI applied to your business

Like i said we have 180 drivers....so yes your figures are right for a cars(unit) takings.....they are wrong for driver takings.

The jockeys earn between 40-50% of the takings depends on what deal the owner offers them.

Try telling the taxman that, or the DSS that the driver is self-employed/NMW doesnt apply...kerching, see you in court

None of the jockeys/owners or myself have had a problem with it for the last 18 years!

This debate is nothing new, infact when i first got my badge (20 years ago) the scare mongerers were talking about exactly the same thing then and nothing ever came of it. Like i said previously, we've not had a problem in 18 years.

I'm sorry but You would need to ask then that question, it just wouldn't be proper for me to start discussing their business arrangements would it? Nice try though.....LOL
