thats her good luck, if that passenger WANTS a female driver she should be able to HAVE one, the driver could chuck her radio in, save £60+ a week and take the booking direct, i couldnt complain then could i...

Sounds like the sort of thing you would do. You'd probably run your own grandmother down on the way to the pick up, just in case someone else like you got their first.

No, as a circuit owner, i'm sure you wouldn't complain , although you would probably be the only circuit owner in the country who wouldn't.
It does beat answering the question though doesn't it?

can a consumer be accused of sexual discrimination?

Yes, but the supplier of a service who discriminates is always an easier target.

wannabeeahack wrote:
according to your scenario if you ran a shop the customers would have what you had, not what they wanted, and you would soon lose em

They would get nothing at all if they insisted on being served by only a woman.

if the lady punter decided to check out hacks on a rank, and the 1st (or only) lady driver was near the back, she could get in that.....

Doesn't this sound familiar. Isn't that how you like it to be anyway?
You must be a real Billy-no-mates.

wannabeeahack wrote:
what about the PH base who get a request for "an estate car" to do the 300 mile job twice a week and theres only one on the circuit? same thing...

Hardly. A male driver can go out and buy an estate car.
Gender re-assignment surgery seems a bit extreme just to land a decent job - even for you.

Which sort of brings this thread back on track......

Gus, I wish you well, but I feel you need newer glasses, the end of your nose must be a stranger to you.

of course the female driver, discriminated against by the base by being denied a request for a lady driver also has a case, and of course she would chuck her radio in for £600 a week in 2 runs, she wouldnt be using it would she...

obviously your punters expect very little in the way of service, as for a male driver buying an estate car, who will cover the estate car job while the customer waits till its plated?....they wont, they will go elsewhere, like any customer denied/refused what they want

according to gusmac, if you toots were the only female on the circuit and mrs jones/smith/etc wants her little girl taken to her dads for access, your base will refuse to send you....

how freakin cool is that?....

I've done work before when people have asked if they have a 'lady driver' available. TBH it really doesn't happen very often. I think in the 8 years I've done this job I've covered 3 jobs that have requested a female driver. On all ocassions I have expressed that the male drivers are just as safe as me with the passenger. Although one was a victim of abuse and said she preferred a female driver as she could relax during the journey although she had been in taxis with a male driver previously. It was obviously just a preference not something she insisted on.

Overall it's sad that people feel the way they do about male and female drivers but that's life and things happen to cloud your persective.

If somebody requested a female driver with the above company and they send a man in a skirt it's not quite the same things is it :?

Good coming from someone who couldn't find his erse with both hands.

She only has a case if she is discriminated against. Unless similar requests for male drivers are entertained, she has no case.

Sounds like another good reason for a base to refuse such a hire.
Why risk flauting the law, discontent from other drivers and possible legal action for no gain and the loss of a weekly radio hire?
Her radio money is far more important to them.
Only you could think that makes economic sense.

BTW what does this driver do when the sexist customer no longer uses her, for whatever reason? Think the base will welcome her back with open arms?

wannabeeahack wrote:

Duh, the one estate car driver already on the circuit. (Your scenario)
How long does it take to substitute a car in your manor?
Anyway, this isn't important. What is important is that any driver could acceed to this request if they chose to.

So you would have no problem with a request for "No Blacks", "No Asians "No Queers" or "No women"?
So long as that's what you are asked for, it's ok?

so then, what can a punter request within reasonable hopes of getting it?

i always thought the customer comes first, if a lady driver was requested off me id have to say i havent got 1, if i had one id be happy to oblige

if you have a womans refuge nearby they usually always request a female driver

maybe as a PH operator im more customer focused than a rank hack

The Customer always comes first......but only if we chose them as Customers in the first place.

oohh, thats good, now they have to apply!

FFS.....

If I was a lady driver on your circuit and found a specific request for a lady driver was declined and was losing me £600 a week i can assure you that you would need medical attention to extract the £100 radio i was paying £100 a week for.....ouch

3. But "No men" you would do?
Tit.

2. So do ours. If you are prepared to accept a cancellation, you can have a substitute vehicle on the road in a couple of days.

1. Try googling "wannabeeahack"

You mean they don't like you? I wonder why that is :?
Maybe they just don't like hungry barstewards.

We had one like you around here a few years back.
He couldn't understand why his tyres got punctured so often.
With that and all the resprays, eventually he jacked it in and went back to driving a white van.
I think he was happier doing that.

Something wrong with sending the one you have? :?

I have to wonder why you would need an estate car for a pregnant woman but please don't answer, I don't think I can listen to anymore of your bollux.
I must remember not to argue with the intellectually challenged.

I'll leave you the last word, since it seems important to you.
