Hi,

I am on a system using Autocab with D21 units.

Although my unit is receiving data fine, there are some units on the system that receive the data slightly quicker. We use a 'bid for work' system and because other drivers are receiving the data slightly quicker ( about 2 seconds) they have basically bid for the hire by the time i receive the bid for work data. Could this be a GPS antenna issue, what is the best and most powerful antenna to use which could speed up me receiving the data slightly quicker.

Any comments would be gratefully appreciated.

The problem with the autocab system as far as i am aware is that the first driver that bids for the job gets it irespective of where u are even if a another driver is closer to the job if that is the case then u shud get jobs on ur data unit at the same time but that will never happen that is determined by ur antenna also where u are ur data coverage etc the better solution wud be if autocab design a system where the closest driver gets the job not fastest finger then ur problem is solved

The bid info is sent to all cars at the same time, so if your data terminal takes 2 seconds longer to display then I’d be asking for a quicker one. Either that or get the bid time extended to give you as much chance as everyone else.

The GPS unit shouldn’t have any affect on the systems speed neither would a better antenna if your data reception is already good.

sounds like some sort of internal clock speed issue in the datahead, perhaps a xtal running slow or off Frequency.

either way it doesn't souns like its a rf antenna issue!

Nah I don’t buy that one young Derek.

The info for bidding is broadcast globally and therefore should be displayed simultaneously on all heads. Crystals just can’t go that far off frequency and even software latency can’t account for a two-second delay.

I reckon that’s this is the same problem where some dataheads receive better jobs than others  Ether that or he’s running on a two-channel system where the channels aren’t in sync!

a bigger antenna wont make you receive faster tho. radio waves travel at the same speed all the time. if your antenna aint working you will just get the error beep. you either get the signal or you dont. no delays. the data head wont cause any delays its very 'simple' technology as far as i understand it anyway. if there is a problem it will be in the control centre

Good `cos i wasn't selling it!

but as for the data head that receives "better jobs", is that like the dataheads which only accept jobs worth £10 or more!
