why buy something that you don't own, seems stupid to me.

As for brighton there are 1800 liecene drivers, does not mean 1800 cabs / phv on the road, not all the cabs are independent. Most of them work to a radio circuit, but don't they take work away from the phv, different side of the coin

but why is it only a cab service has to meet this demand, ?

Why is it that some sections of the trade are too weak to be able to do business without artificial restrictions?

I agree mate, and I'm sorry if I was abrupt to start with, but I've been here two weeks and it seems like a lets deregulate site, you now seem reasonably intellegent, so I can assume you see my points?

Having observed some of the exchanges in various threads it appears to me that the only person fixated with deregulation is your good self. There are thousands of topics on this site that might interest you, if you care to look?

Dundee has been deregulated on three occasions in the past 1984,1991 & 1999 and our city is still open for anyone who wants a licence our earnings have been decimated & we still have a problem with PH, so don't think deregulation is all what it's cracked up to be it just means longer hours for a lot less money

Wouldn't it be fair to say that much of the PH problem in Dundee is caused by the insistence on a WAV for newer licenceholders, while others have saloons?
WAV avoidance basically?

I would agree with you it does play a big part regards the PH situation but maybe Dundee's Mixed fleet does cater for all members of the disable but only government legislation will eventually answer the WAV saloon question.

Do not accept it, challenge it through your association, they can only deregulate if there is unmet demand, as you will be aware there is no unmet demand, push your council into court, I gaurantee they won't want to go there, stand up and shout about it before it's too late, they deregulate on unmet demand, if you've been deregulated and you are stuggling to make a living, stick an injunction in asap, you will win after a survey.

Well, looking at the Stockport thread, the council deregulated in Feb 2009 despite no unmet demand being found via the TPI Survey and when challenged to court by the local association, the council did indeed back down because of costs and hassle.

Now the decision is due in May/June regarding whether the council are going to reverse their decision or not.

The council didn't deregulate out of choice, they deregulated to stop 5 scrote chancers from gaining £30k because of the council's own lack of foresight. When they stepped back and saw the consequences of their decision they had second thoughts or to be more exact - one person with a cool head did. Council's f#ck up all the time through incompetence and then expect everybody to pay for their miss management.

But, as CC may point out the trade bodies are just as guilty by not being proactive in their protection of their trade

Sadly I agree, the eyes have to be firmly on the ball at all times.
