'WOW,' the social worker exclaims, 'Are they ALL yours?

'Yeah they are all mine,' the flustered mother sighs, having heard that question a thousand times before. She says, 'Sit down Terry.' All the children rush to find seats.

'Well,' says the social worker, 'then you must be here to sign up. I'll need all your children's names.'

'This one's my oldest - he is Terry.'

'OK, and who's next?'

'Well, this one he is Terry, also.'

The social worker raises an eyebrow but continues. One by one, through the oldest four, all boys, all named Terry. Then she is introduced to the eldest girl, named Terri. 'All right,' says the caseworker. 'I'm seeing a pattern here. Are they ALL named Terri?'

Their Mother replied, 'Well, yes-it makes it easier. When it is time to get them out of bed and ready for school, I yell, 'Terry!' An'
when it's time for dinner, I just yell 'Terry!' an' they all come

The social worker thinks this over for a bit, then wrinkles her forehead and says tentatively, 'But what if you just want ONE kid to come, and not the whole bunch?'

'I call them by their surnames!'

Never mind T. Not like you to avoid discussion with pointless waffle............

.............BTW we don't have social workers in our benefit offices.

Yeah, but thats imateraial.

Hey I just had a thought, I'm sorry for theatening you, but can you not see how the chat here threatens me, and I ain't a lay down sort, I've friends with 100k invested, why should they lose out because one guy wanted a plate, I really am sorry gus, it's the only way I know having lived so long in a violent town, try and see it my way all I want is to be able to drive for a living and get one, I didn't buy to sell, I bought so I didn't have to be controlled, I worked the first 6 years of my life being paid poor and taken advantage of, this is why I fight so fierce,. I don't have any issue with you or wish you any harm, but I will fight to the death for my livelyhood, I know we've not go off on the right foot, but see it my way, Sussex is just wanting a free plate and he whips up support for it through ppl who don't know a lot, infact he knows nothing, if you had an investment worth 60k which is what a Brighton cab goes for would you want to see that vanish overnight?

Its nice to read your rants Doom.
You do have a point ,especially about protecting your assets (or is it the councils) but what about the the driver who rents their plate , dont they need protecting also from unscruplis owners? who take back plates without notice to leave the driver with a car but no plate and therfore out of work.

Where do you stand on this side of the fence ?

I was one of the drivers in Dundee that was calling for deregulation i thought it would get rid of plate hiring and sort out the problem with private hire .I could not have more wrong the situation in Dundee is out of control there is still plate hiring and the ph problem has got worse.I really think that anyone considering supporting deregulation to take a look at the situation in Dundee. Also the trade is splintered and as a result the council are shown a total disregard to what the trade are saying.

He wants another one

Seems strange to me mind.

Derestriction can be overturned by well constructed argument, I was involved in such a successful case, but it is easily taken away by making demands without considering implications.

The problem is the two tier system that was brought in, same as we have here.
Driver's pay to hire a saloon or go PH, to avoid the costs of buying and running a WAV.
This has left the saloon plates with a value. That value is the difference in buying and running a saloon, against the same costs for a WAV.
It's really a restricted trade within an unrestricted one.
Until the council apply the same criteria to each taxi licence, this will continue to be a problem.
