The problems Nigel is encountering has nothing to do with any equipment and everything to do with the signals.

The reason he has to keep taking the back off is because it's the only way to reboot as they don't have an on-off button.

Auriga have sold next to none of their PDAs, and that's not because Auriga hardware is rubbish, it's because the signals aren't strong enough, or more likely stable enough.

TBH I wish the only problem was the hardware. Would make Auriga's life a lot easier.

Anyway no doubt it will be solved in the future.

We've changed PDA's Echo, we've changed from O2 to Orange we've had software updates from Excel all to no avail. I think we've got to be looking at another Data provider and get shut of Excel, they are going to bring us to our knees within 12 months. We've had 2 cars going for the same job today.

I think a lot of companies have their systems set up to suite them as far as the bidding goes ive always been against the fastest finger on to the bid as opposed to the closest car thats why i didnt like the autocab system as it was the first driver to bid for the job would get it even though he could be 10 miles away from the job & a driver could be on the next zone & not get the job the way we have our system set up is the driver from his data unit can choose how he wants to work so he can work the 1 zone or get pulled to 4 zones or even get pulled upto 8 or 12 zones away but he has the choice our bidding table decides which driver is closest to the job yes their is a delay of 10 seconds but at least it is the closest driver to the job as far as pda s go i would not go fleet wide with them ive been testing about 10 of them but yes we get problems with them but not the kind of problems nigel seems to be having but in nigels case i dont think it is anything to do with the gprs network its the mercury software which sounds sh..e

We use the cordic system on the o2 network, o2 arnt the best service provider but they do not cause the PDA's to freeze.

the problems nigel is facing maybe a broadband issue and if their broadband is fine then mercury need to iron out all the bugs!! Coz we hardly ever need to reset our PDA's, i reckon it depends on how well the software is written.

Ive seen various PDA software for recieving jobs at taxi shows and i must say without bias Cordic PDA software has to be the best and most stable on the market. Its well laid out and very easy for drivers to use.

Our is well laid out and easy to use but hell trying to get it to work right is a different equation. 3 times yesterday I had to take the back off and take the sim card out and rub the sim card on my jeans to get it to work. Try doing that at 70 on a motorway?
