It would appear that pressure from the newly established GMB branch has got the council to rethink their suggestion of a silly age limit.

Lets hope the Leeds GMB use their national officers wisely thus ensuring the silly policy is binned.

All of this without a strike I have you know.

Thats right GMB been in Leeds 2 minutes and solving all our problems, nothing to do with anybody else in the trade then.

This was a closed council meeting that the public and GMB were thanked for their attendance and that was it, nobody but the actual committee members spoke in the meeting so how the GMB have made the council rethink I don't know.

Yes they do, I apologise I was miss informed by other representatives at the meeting.

This is what the GMB said :-

Mr Bill Chard, GMB Leeds Private Hire Association in summing up his
members concerns said there was a lot of drivers concerned about losing their livelihood, it was very important that proper consultation takes place
before any decision was taken.

If thats all it takes for the council to change there decisions, we can all sit back and leave it to the GMB then.

Nothing to do with what the trade was doing before the GMB got involved.

And by the way, it was the private hire forum members that came up with the idea, nothing to do with the hackney carriage trade.

From what I can work out the GMB want to go forward with the rest of the trade, and not take over.

I very much doubt the GMB is the panacea to all the Leeds trade's woes, but they will help.

That's the going rate if the only thing the driver has to do is put fuel in the car. If they have to get their own insurance and replace tyres etc then it's less. All the same it's not cheap it's just less hassle :D

SORRY SUSSEX BUT I'M AT A LOSS HERE WITH THE ABOVE POST WHEN YOU SEEM TO BE SAYING THE OPPOSITE IN ANOTHER POST UNLESS I AM READING IT WRONG ?

QUOTE: IN COUNCIL RULES WILL KILL OFF DALES TAXI TRADE

Surely if their trade is being flooded by new drivers then the way forward is to increase standards, and by having a knowledge and English test punters will benefit.

And the trade, in time, will reap those benefits.

It's a Brighton thing.
