Hi this is Bill, some know me and some don't - this is what I have found out regarding station taxis and national express. If you put a car on now (before the 1st of May) it can be any colour and it will be able to stay on while those nice people at station taxis have the license to run the station portico. However, after the 1st of May if you have an accident or have your car written off (God forbid!) you will find that you have to put a black car on.

Now what confuses me is that Tom Brown took York council to court and won his case on his taxi colour, well done Tom!!! and now, station taxis and national express have said "stuff you" and "stuff the courts" and "stuff anyone else, you will do what we say" far be it for me to say anything derogatory, however I do think station taxis and national express should 1. Look after trains 2. Get work for cars in station taxis and 3. Leave the bloody taxi trade to run itself like it should, and up to recently, always has done.

As we all know, York City council have a set of rules and regulations that your car should be clean, tidy and well maintained, we run by laws regarding our licence, for God's sake why don't they let us run to the regulations that are already in place and leave us to get on with the job and let politicans do politics and taxi drivers do taxi driving and stuff the rest!!

Bill

welcome to the site.

Have you ever seen the contract between the train operating company and the taxi company?

I have.

From memory at a station on the east coast main line further north than York. Driver uniforms and vehicles were mentioned in the contract.

Do you think a private hire operator would be willing to ensure a uniform colour of vehicle and smartly dressed drivers? If he could get exclusive rights to the station?

I do......perhaps Station Taxis in York know that too?

The problem with letting things run themselves is that they invariably run to what suits them at the time. This is not professional and IMO it's about time taxi drivers became professional and earned the respect deserved for their efforts :D

Well done Bill Brolley, at last someone who makes sense and say's it how it is, just a shame the rest of the muppets in York, don't have the same principals/morals and common sense, oh and unity.

I have to say, you probably are a very nice man, but may i ask when do you actually do any Taxi driving? Because you must spend 24 hrs a day on this sight.
And yes i have also seen the contracts for the North East line, from Edinburgh to Peterbourgh, shirts/ties/dark trousers/etc etc, yes i agree.
Private hire on the rank within York station, will never happen. private hire on private land hidden from public view and a legal booking system in place, not anything that can be remotely construed as touting. York had already been threatened with this about 10 yrs ago, and at that time Station Taxi's, told them to do it then, did they? No! Could they? No! Newcastle at the time did the same.
So with greatest respect Captain Cab, i find my self thinking you must be part of the current team of muppets that run station Taxi's at the moment, who do nothing but sell the trade out to the likes National Express, because of there own self indulgent interests, and the belief that one outer office contract is the Holy Grail.

I've had the weekend off, I presume I'm allowed one every 12 months?

I can only presume even though you claim to have seen the contract with National Express you dont actually understand it.

If the person giving out a contract wants uniformed drivers....can you explain to me how that is the taxi firms fault?

I think your mistaken in respect of private hire at stations too.....anything is possible....even removing hackney carriages who lose contracts.

As for the 'muppets' that run Station Taxis no I'm not one.....and I have been critical of them on here in the past.....I actual fact believe in free and open access for all hackney carriages at stations.

Are they a co-operative with an elected board or an invididual company?

But I also know that some cab drivers dress like tramps and run vehicles that are bags of sh*te.

What you call restrictions.....others call standards.

Ok Captain, i give up with you, your right and your right, it's hard to debate with someone so closed minded and can only quote common sense, with regards the the contract, someone with your insight should have realized the contract that was allowed to look at for a week, (several years ago) was GNER, or was you not even in the job then? and the paint on your badge isn't dry yet, like The Thinker, and yes times have moved on, shame the so called know alls in this job don't do the same.

I don't have a closed mind.....I was very critical of the situation in York......but surely if Station Taxis decide they are going to have a colour policy for vehicles and a dress code....that's a company decision.

I cant see station taxis objecting to you going to work in a 'I'm with Stupid' T shirt......provided you don't go on rail premises.

As for the job.......I've been in it since I was born...into a taxi family.....washing cabs in a cab garage before I could reach the roof.....working in a cab garage on a weekend since I was 12....leaving school to start working in a cab garage servicing taxis and maintaining them.......and driving cabs since I was 18.....and for 20 years running a taxi business with 50 odd cabs, so please don't be under the illusion I don't have a clue.

Thank you for your input.....I do get out....unfortunately following Carlisle United and Newcastle isn't exactly the best things to do at the moment.

Yes, I do enjoy a Guinness, and a bottle of wine.

I don't see how relevant your post is.....but I'll keep it in mind.

Its the same all over I'm afraid......however in general its the lack of input then the finger pointing afterwards that create a situation where the local authority win......they love the infighting because thats how they thrive. eusasmiles.zip

So it's not true, someone had suggested the truth was in the foundations on the new university site on field lane. See you have made a grand entrance as usual, and of course what i have to say is correct, i come from a long line of self righteous, always right, never wrong, family dating back to the 1890's.
Which i have found quite useful on here and been a cab driver in York it certainly helps me fit in with my colleagues.
Nearly had a new rented plate off the thinker, but he wouldn't budge on the 8 weeks holiday, pratt!!!!
Anyway nice to see you back on, need the support!!!!!!
