does this sytem work through a PDA in a vehicle or a dedicated data unit? how does the unit (or the base) know where it is, has it a GPRS/3G connection?

Data unit's and gps tracked, pretty standard stuff really, we are looking at pda's now but from what i hear the networks are unstable and therefore unreliable so we'll probably wait until things improve.

I've noticed that you have been a little quiet lately.

You wouldn't be in any way connected to why the Private Hire drivers in Lincoln aren't particularly happy?

You wouldn't cut you're prices without consulting your drivers would you :?

Major issues is a bit of an understatement if you've pulled a shady trick like that

First things first, did we with consult with our drivers before lowering our fares? YES

We held a meeting in January to discuss various options regarding increasing our market share with a random selection of day and night commission and owner drivers.

Did we consult with all of our drivers before lowering our fares? NO.

Have we previously consulted all of our drivers when we have increased our fares? NO.

Drivers are never going to be happy to hear that fares are being lowered, however several years ago when we were going through another dry spell we introduced a loyalty card scheme for our regular customers. This meant the fares would be lowered by approx 10%, it was to date our most successful advertising campaign ever and increased driver takings considerably when we rolled it out to all customers within six months of launching it. Did we consult with all of our drivers about this? NO. Did they hate the idea when we told them? YES.

Most of the drivers that i have come across over the years are not particularly business minded, nor do they need to be that's my job, it's also my job to keep drivers earning and my office staff in employment. I will be judged on my results as always, if i have dropped one here i will be the first to hold my hands up, but i am confident that my decision to lower fares will benefit my drivers in the long term, only time will tell.

Is it best to sit back and do nothing or try to generate more work and increase driver takings? You tell me.

None of my business.....but isn't lowering fares the week fuel duty rises a couple of pence per litre.....rather tactless?

If it is found to be a mistaken venture whilst you can hold your hands up.....It hasn't cost you.....it costs the drivers.

I am surprised to see your lack of respect for the drivers who keep you in the luxuries your accustomed to.
